  1. Depends on the severums. I have seen a grown pair give convicts a hard time. Severums are pretty docile for a cichlid, but once paired up, thats a different story. I wouldn't keep a fighter in with them, may be fine in the short term. Tiger barbs, well depends really, the barbs can be a pain in the a... to some species. If the severums are of a nice size, then should be fine. Frenchy
  2. Oh so you don't really know for sure then? Did you see anything nice in these 2 shops, just out of interest? Frenchy
  3. Thought you may like it. I can't remember if I dropped Rod's name to you before or not. I clicked the other day, that I thought he had a website. Very useful site for Julie lovers. Frenchy
  4. As Afrikan said. When I was a lfs kick about we had a guy called Rod Pick supply us with a few different types of Julies. For all the Julis keepers, this may be a good link to look at, very knowledgeable julie keeper, great set up... Rod has even had Ad Konnings visit his house 8) http://www.members.iinet.net.au/[email protected]/julidochromis.htm Frenchy
  5. Probably all female Frenchy
  6. I have never seen them 2 species cross before. Did you ask the shop about them? Frenchy
  7. The clamped fins, are liable to be a sign of a parasite infection. I would get a parasite remedy & treat the tank again. Use for full course of treatment. Also do you have plenty of airation in the tank, I know that these can supply not much at all if the filter isn't running at full speed or water level is to high. Frenchy
  8. Just read the post, Very well done, nice achievement. Frenchy
  9. Debate all you like.... and just to check with an Ad Konnings book.... If you want to debate feeding, take it up with them  Thanks but, I mean ask Brad, he only has to touch them. I am sure that is once in a blue moon & he breaks out in a rash. Frenchy
  10. I don't care what people feed their own fish. As I have typed the dangers of bloodworms before. If there fish die, too bad. Its the suggestions to others to do the same I don't like. Thanks for the tip I didn't know what I was talking about, silly me  Yes I know they dig in the sand for food for micro orgasims. Have read the page I linked earlier before. As we are on research tips then, read up on bloodworms, how they are collected & how many humans are allergic to them. I know off people that have had no problems before, but I have lost fish to bloodworms before as have lfs shops. Brad breaks out in a rash when handling them, as does another lfs member I know. You are right nothing is black & white in this hobby. Because they are a risk I will continue to advise people against them. Plenty of the other feeding options out there. In the end do what you like, just be aware with bloodworms there are risks. Frenchy
  11. Why do people recommend feeding bloodworms to fish for, especially African Cichlids? Dolphins can be nasty buggers. More females is probably the only other thing I could suggest. Then again, that is hard to find at that size. A nice read, http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c_moorii.php Frenchy
  12. Ira is right.... This link has the full list of chemicals  ... http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aquarium_salts.php Frenchy
  13. Give him some time. Would only be 2 weeks at the moment? May take him a month or 2. Fronnies can be slow to settle into a tank. Nice pics too. Frenchy
  14. If they are talking about this then yes, peacock. I got thrown by this comment from Tropheus That is why I did my last post, is that why you asked to Johannes? Frenchy
  15. The bloat could of been caused by incorrect diet. What were you feeding them? Frenchy
  16. Mooloo are you lot talking about the Mamemlela? We have them here, males are a very nice fish. Frenchy
  17.   {ROFLMAO} ps; sorry couldn't help myself, just got home after good night out. Firstly disappointed by another post, now ROFLMAO  Seriously for a second if I may, I hope you do get some goodies in & correct ID would be cool to save confusion. Frenchy
  18. The post at Sat Feb 24, 2007 12:15 pm is the biggest load of bullocks I have ever read from someone who is meant to be well respected for what he does. Very disappointing/disturbing... Firstly you pride yourself on these oddities & how particular you are yet you don't care what the name is. What the??? I fail to see your references to other fish & what you can get in{need a yawning emoticon} I mean I can tell you plenty of stories about oddities & the such. But there is no point lol. Oh fish come into the country here to. Back door so to speak. Our list isnt that great. People find ways here, funny thing is they still come in with there correct name. Frenchy
  19. OOA is back  No need to get offended either. Yes people are wrong. Importers are the ones miss leading people. If they knew what they were doing,{and they do, fronnies as example later} then people like yourself wouldn't be calling them by there wrong name. Ahli should be wiped from peoples memories. As you can see, re classified in 1993, so whats that 13 years for people to get it right. You would think that was a long enough time frame. Silly me. They wouldn't have known what their names were in the first place so I doubt they give a hoot anyway  Shall I go ask? As for your stock OOA you just got them in under a wrongly called name, very common mistake for electric blues. Just fryeri, probably from the southern region. Which island would be a debate. I don't see the fuss, fryeri area much nicer fish anyway. Don't cut yourself short. Or does the mean you are an expert? Dosen't take an expert to see the importance of naming fish correctly. Especially when one species in this case keeps the old name. The other should be called by its correct name. Causes confusion I believe...well funny that, as that point is well proven too. Oh, thanks for the story on the other species too, I can give you a few from this side of the ditch  I fail to see your point, names change on alot species. Not hard for people to keep up with the times. Look at fronnies, the re classifieds are already on the import lists as gibberosa. What was the point of the last few species? Tickets please. Frenchy
  20. Very nicely laid out tank. Tank looks very clear too. Oh nice comp too. Alto's my fav  Frenchy
  21. People do forget, aye Mike, or just trying their luck again. Frenchy

Quote from where I used to work... and oh and There is no ahli article, as the owner didn't believe them to be in the country. Frenchy
