  1. We are talking about the 3 utaka spots on the body of the fish. Electric blues do not have these. Frenchy
  2. Should be sweet then Frenchy
  3. Yep. Afrikan has seen some dodgy ones. Frenchy
  4. You could start off with 5 smaller oscars... grow them up to they pair up. Hopefully they don't knock each other off. I agree, wtf is a 20cm Oscar doing in a 50 litre tank? Whats that a 2x1x1? Frenchy
  5. Yep, it's common practice over here. Its just a case of being careful with ph adjustments. My only concern with them is the sharp barb below their eye. If they want a cave a spawning cichlid wants, there can be trouble. I have seen the odd damaged eye to a cichlid, likely cause, clown loach. Frenchy
  6. Just to give you an example of whats doing here, probably the same scenario in NZ. The ones that were imported here are just called sulphur crested.{Once again an old school name} Having seen alot through the lfs etc, some have the full blaze through the head, some don't. Over here it is just a case of some are not of as good a quality as others. Its like so many species, especially the old lines, electric yellows, fronnies etc...... lithos {ie;sulphur crested lineage} have been around for a good number of years therefore variances in quality exist. As a guess, if those in NZ were imported without a variant, they be the same lines as those here in Aussie.{ came via Asia} The thing you have to watch is that litho's & electric blues cross easily. eg; If you ever see electric blues with the utaka spots, avoid like the plague. Frenchy
  7. The comment earlier in the post to me suggest that people have lithos that have a whitish/yellow blaze rather than the strong yellow, that runs through the head. Could be a chance that the white ones are a cross breed with electric blues, as it happens very easily & has already happened in NZ. Or the whitish blaze could just be a yellow blaze litho of not so high a quality. {IMO} Frenchy
  8. We have not to bad a collection Daniel. I would say your yellow blaze ones are legit. They are commonly available in these parts. What type of yellow blaze? Pass... :-? Frenchy
  9. Here we go again  Chances are you just had 2 different qualities of the same line. Or the white blaze ones maybe are a cross with electric blues. I am sure someone in your parts saw the import lists. Most lithos in these parts of the world have the yellow blaze. This link shows what one of the importers here has. http://www.bayfish.com.au/category1_2.htm Over here they are just imported as "sulphur crest".... no location name. & we have silver torpedos. But there are more than 2 variants as well, http://www.aquariumfish.com/aquariumfish/detail.aspx?aid=578&cid=3780&search= Frenchy
  10. I think roundworms in the Aquaria are just Camallanus, these are not white at all. Basically worms are classed as a nematode. Therefore any decent paracide available form the local lfs will do the trick. Follow instuctions on bottle. If you believe these worms are harming the fish, then thats what I would do. Probably half dose as you have scaleless fish. Diagnosing worm species can be hard, killing them all stem back to a few medicines. If the worms are planaria, then watch your feeding, I reckon it is too much. Frenchy
  11. Breeding colony of peacocks fine. Humpheads no worries. Electric blues may get a bit big for a tank that size. Frenchy
  12. It is in mine  It is something that I haven't come across much in my time too. Has fishtv done a goggle image search on Planaria worms, Anchor worms or Aquarium worms etc to find out what they are. Or are we meant to keep guessing for another 5 days? Frenchy
  13. If you know of anyone that stocks Aquarium Science products, then they do a product that is called Worm Rid. It has Praziquantel in it. I have used this products a couple of times with good results. Just be careful with scaleless fish. Frenchy
  14. Well done, good luck with the fry raising. Nice pics too. Frenchy
  15. What are you looking at keeping? Not all cichlids are alike when it comes to room, swimming levels.... Some mbuna for example would be ok in a 3x15x18. Frenchy
  16. What does the formalin bottle say on it? As in what does it say it treats? What are the instructions on the bottle? Frenchy
  17. Yep your fish have been dying for a while. When you treated your previous diseases did you use for full term? I would say the worms are a result of over feeding, waste....ie; planaria. You really have to look at what you are doing with your fish. As how much you feed, taking more care when you buy fish etc. Praziquantel is in some parasite medicines here. Copper can kill fish too. Frenchy
  18. Heaps of people mix them over here no dramas at all. The main concern is if there is going to be a big change in ph. If there is, introduce them slowly. Frenchy
  19. If the worms are free swimming, any paracide should do the the trick. Anything with Praziquantel will be good. How clean is your tank, gravel, water etc. Frenchy
  20. Those last few symptoms point towards parasites, not bacterial. Frenchy
  21. What is the poo like? If the feces are often slimey, then the fish have worms. Treat with a paracide. ie; Praziquantel. Frenchy
