  1. Chilly bin  been a long time since I have heard that  As the boys here would say "Its an Esky mate" Frenchy
  2. When I did my last shift I bought a couple of those cheap plastic containers on wheels from the cheap shop. Did the job. The ones I got held around 100litres, just half filled them. Easy for 2 blokes to lift in vehicles. I have battery air pumps too, jacked them up to sponge filters. So fish were good as gold for a little while. Don't feed fish a day before shift too. Frenchy
  3. Tropheus, funny I was thinking the same thing. Hybrid almost certain, unfortunately. How big are they? :-? Should be easy to tell apart, surely? How big are privately bred ones when first delivered to lfs? Over here the general rule is 3cm. Bigger is better too. At least that way at 3cm, deformities, species identification & the like are easy to tell & go by. Frenchy
  4. Did anyone have a look at the link? I am wondering if anyone over there has cichlids that look like those? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/1-vt3033.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Little fatties is right  Not short of a feed. Frenchy
  5. If both species are true, then there will be differences. Frenchy
  6. A few of the posts & pm's I have seen over the last week or 2 have got me thinking about the quality of some stock. One link I received was this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/1-vt3033.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 The fish in these pics are not electric blues. Ahli or fryeri. Frenchy
  7. How silly isnt it. :-? these look impossible to tell apart..hey I know what, lets put them in together  {shakes head in disbelief} Males get the yellow running through the top.... Black?{scratches head} The black as in the 3 spots? The photos I placed were all females. Any colour will be males & it should be blue/aqua in Azureus. Problem with the spots is both Azureus & litho's should have them. Frenchy
  8. The thing that concerns me is this part If they are 3cm or more, then they should be able tell them apart. One is slender & long.... the other is higher bodied & even juvies should have 3 black spots on the body. Unless the Azureus are crosses of course. Then again if the other comment is litho's Azures, litho, elec blue How funny though,{funny ha, not ha ha} that a shop will mix these together. I can't help you out sorry, different country for a start. Frenchy
  9. Cyprichromis lepstoma are cool little Tangy's, what variant of them did you end up with? Frenchy
  10. The one where we closed the doors is Wetpetz. http://www.wetpetz.com/index.html The one with all the Africans is Nind St. Brads site... http://www.aquariumsalive.com.au/ Where is it Brad? I used to like the pic of your brother swimming in one of your display tanks when you were setting them up lol. As for planted tanks...Clayfield do mainly just marines & planted. They got out of cichlids To many shops around them that do cichlids, shame really, as theres is the best quality shop in that area of brissie.{IMO} I'm not that way inclined Alan. Sorry to Brad, yes I should of placed your shop at the top of the list, my humble apologies.  Frenchy
  11. Thought I better clarify that part, just in case  Frenchy
  12. @ above comments. Me.... I don't know. Just want to say cool looking little girls/guys maybe even Frenchy
  13. Hey Brad, your male has the temperament of a Amphilophus labiatus  I have seen the bite marks on yours & Steve's hands to prove it  {I ain't stupid enough to try..... something about cuts, blood & pain dosen't appeal to me} Frenchy
  14. That doppy looking thing, the oscar that is, {jok} shouldn't be getting the chance to be happy....{ponders over what emoticon to place in} :-? Frenchy
  15. I doubt that they are verduyni. They should have the black spots on the body. I am sure that if the importer came across these on his list they would know. verduyni & chrysonatus are dearer to, so no doubt the importer would of stung you for these if they were that. What were they brought in as? Hopefully not "blue lump head" I am starting to wonder about the quality of the importers over there, on reading some of the posts. Not hard to find a quality wholesaler in asia, its easy to find a cheap dodgy ones. We are lucky here to have 2 high quality importers. There is one lfs here that brings in his own cheap stuff, now wheres the photo of the fish he brought in as an orange peacock. Theres a point to, orange peacock, why are they importing cichlids by just there common name? :-? Found them, As for breeding true, some cross breeds do that too. Not saying yours are. Electric blues & litho cross look just like an electric blue still. Just they carry over the spots of the litho's. Then again, some pure wild species don't even breed true. eg; This is where the rubin reds come from Thats another story  Frenchy
  16. Males tend to sell better because they are pretty. Litho's kept in with them too  That is beyond a joke. Its worse keeping litho's with electric blues, than keeping azureus with them. :-? These will cross breed at the drop of a hat. Over here its a case of; if a lfs or breeders sells electric blues and they have the 2 or 3 black spots on the body, avoid them like the plague{cross breed} For some reason when these guys cross, well here anyway. They tend to still look like blues as in colour, shape....they carry over the litho's splotches/dots. So there is a tip for you guys to look out for too. Frenchy
  17. Pet city is on Kingston Rd by memory. As you in Salt Water by the looks of it ...... Umm, thats a different kettle of fish to what I keep. A very nicely laid out one is Clayfield Aquarium, in Clayfield of course. Park Ave I think is the street. The Aquarium Warehouse chain, there is 3 of them. Have a collection of marines. 2 on the coast, 1 in brissie. The first one you have mentioned is Coral Plantations, very nicely set up...Check yellow pages Australia, follow the prompts..... most shops are in there. If you like freshwater, then thats easy lol. Wetpetz is a must, Annerley Aquarium has some oddities. Both on Old Cleveland Road, different ends though. Gold Coast, Aquarium & Petland on Nind St in Southport. Aquariums Alive in Nerang, Tibbing St...problem there is you get to meet Brad{Freakyfish} Q Aquarium, Q super store, Bermuda St G&S Aqua at Runaway Bay, street name I forget. Alan might mention a couple he liked when we did our little tiki tour. Frenchy
  18. Don't need to be that insulted. As I said, Expect a reply that isn't going to please. Especially when you did make a mistake, Yep, we all make mistakes. That was the point of my reply. As I said don't take it to heart. I take offense to people proclaiming to be experts. That is how I read this comment below. Thats why I threw this quote in there, Experts, there are none. That is why I also said to I would like to see the fish when bigger, I will have a better idea. To me it isn't quite right.Going by the azureus over here. That is all Brad comparing them too as well. I guess I am more lets wait & see, Brad is confident they are not. Yep Utaka do fill out. In a shop I can tell the difference between them, peacocks, electric blues...all at 3cm, its pretty easy. Frenchy
  19. Sorry I just noticed this comment, below. {quote} Them ones, make me go oh dear  & roflmao. "I know one thing, & that is that I know nothing" Well, firstly you thought it was C. chrysonotus. Then you headed towards C. Azureus. Well its a pity the one in pic dosen't. I think that too. But I would like to see the pic of the fish when bigger, give it a chance. Did OOA ever keep peacocks, electric blues, lithobates or Azureus together? I know this here can be confusing. Now if you are going to post this You would think with all that knowledge & experience you would be up with the play. Especially when you have been breeding these for years. What have you been selling them as then? Have you been "thinking" they were C. chrysonotus for years, without being sure. But hey I will sell as this because I can? Nimbo, what are the chances the "blue lump head" was one of OOA. ps; Don't take it the wrong way, I found that last post to be very W##ky. Frenchy
  20. What will they think of next  Frenchy
  21. Look what I found. I hope you don't mind OOA. {This quote was from a forum member on another forum. After being told that his Kadango was a hybrid.} That might not be true, the pic of OOA is a kadango. Frenchy
  22. What you saying my word is rubbish  Oh, johannes, on the peacock thing. Looks very close to me. If they were imported as such, I say they are correct. Amazing what a good pic can do. Frenchy
