  1. Electric yellows are probably the most docile of the mbuna. I have seen them in mixed tanks. Usually if there is just one, most other fish are of a good size, all should go well. Touch wood  Frenchy
  2. Vent sexing is the best way. A guess.... which is worth nothing really in this case, is a male. Frenchy
  3. I see no reference to fish, babies, eggs...... just big mouth females. I wonder what species? I have never met a homo sapien female like that   Frenchy
  4. More a case of most fryeri are old school. Especially those imported without variants. Therefore variances in the species itself have just occurred naturally from being old lines. Frenchy
  5. Cut back on the brine shrimp flake. I would say once the container is finished. Don't buy another one. Make the main part of the diet spirulina. Frenchy
  6. She could only be holding eggs of another mouth brooder. What are the chances she just has a few pebbles in her mouth? Frenchy
  7. Do you think I should do it evil? Frenchy
  8. Try convince the others about parking outside??? Good one... Plus the garage is on to much of a lean too, wouldn't want to risk anymore tanks in there. If I spill water when doing water changes it runs down towards the house. Good speed to  Also I may end up going "somewhere" in country Queensland next year. The better half has a scholarship, god knows where she is going to end up. I may be following. So more tanks be a pain in the a..e to move. The change of set up means I could nearly leave one 4 footer behind, full of fry at the moment. Knowing my luck the dam Discus will pair up & breed  The white calvus young take up 3x2 footers & a few are in the 4 footer. I will always keep the White Calvus, C.leptosoma. The electric yellows & maybe demasoni will have one tank. What will be going is the L.mbamba & P.aceii. That way, 4x2x2 be a display. Whites & leptos in one 4 ft, yellows & demasoni in another 4 footer. 1x4ft, 3x2fts fry raising. {as they are now} Plus the 4x2 has females holding, stripping the tank is a pain. Full of lava rock. Demasoni & Aceiis dosen't matter, but sometimes the yellows seem to lose condition. Not far on them. Frenchy
  9. I was at Brad's today. He had some nice Discus in his shop. I was thinking of going for a little change & setting up my 4x2x2 with Discus, Cardinals, plants.... am I finally going insane? Will mean I have to get rid of at least 2 African species too. {No I am not allowed another tank} Have kept pancakes before, so know what I am in for. I always go through these changes from time to time. Frenchy
  10. The white poo, leans me towards bloat too. Metronidazole is commonly known as flagyl. Also what do you normally feed your Africans. Might be a problem with what you feed them. Frenchy
  11. Is her breathing heavier than the other fish? Frenchy
  12. Most likely not. Prrobably a bacterial bloom. Likely cause; you would of lost some bacteria in your tank when you took the wood out. Just go easy on the feeds for a week. I would do another 30% water change in a few days. Frenchy
  13. Has the fish darkened in colour at all? Frenchy
  14. I have used yo-yo loaches, for something different. They worked fine. The main thing would be ph adjustments. Frenchy
  15. Congrats. I have noticed that brood sizes can vary too. 16 is a good number. The little buggers grow nice & quick too. All the best with the raising of the fry. Frenchy
  16. The water will be crashing as there is no carbonate & or general hardness in the water. What can cause it? It can be the water supply? This is a problem with a water supply in parts of Brisbane. Very soft water. Can also be from overfeeding, peat, wood..... How much wood do you have in the tank? How long does it take for your water to start dropping? A simple thing of adding some calcium carb to your substract or as part of your filter media. Also a piece of limestone can do the trick. Another simple trick is adding a little bicarb soda & magnesium salt to your water when you do water changes. I do this because I need hard water. When raising the ph, only do so when doing a water change. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/hardness.php For more reading, here are more topics. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/chemistry_list.php Frenchy
  17. This one, about Neolamprologus leleupi. On a re check I did note it was nearly 5 years ago. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/articles/fish_articles/lemon_cichlid/ Frenchy
  18. Very nice article on the lelupi too. Just one question, were you meant to of typed 7 for the ph? Frenchy
  19. Congrats on the fry. All the best with raising them. Frenchy
  20. As above comments. All will be fine. Frenchy
  21. Your ones look nice. I think you are seeing things with the pic in the link. To me its a smudge on the body & a dot at the base. Looks nothing like these now does it. Utaka spots look like these, huge difference. http://www.pny.se/galleri_akvarie/pny_5377b600.jpg Well you can compare them all here http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGGL_enAU205AU206&q=Otopharynx%20lithobates%20%20%20&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi Frenchy
  22. Good luck with the search. Frenchy
  23. Yeah it can... There you go & it has happened to me before & others. That is why most heaters have a guideline just incase. Frenchy
