Thanks Caryl and Zev I did just that. Nana ended up shouting me it because its for polytech, Im so lucky Its brilliant, I still havnt figured out how to use to it yet but what I have shot so far is miles ahead of what Im used to. There are so many different settings too, and pre-sets it will takes me weeks to get it right. Its got a mode that takes 2 photos in very quick succession, one with flash one without, and it can follow fast moving objects. Heres a couple of point and clicks, I havnt messed with anything yet still on factory default. Usually to get anything close to this it might take me 50 - 150 tries on Mums dinosaur. These photos I just aimed and fired.

Yeah Im thinking the same, I have a spare tank or 3 now so I thought I would put them in on trial, its going well so far, the DP doesnt seem to even care. Once I get some females puffers though Ill leave it as species only. The gobies would prefer brackish too, so I have an excuse to try setting up a BW tank now.

Thanks breakaway, I havnt seen it build like that before so I guess it was just the hairgrass trapping it. Algae is a thing of the past now, except for the green stuff that gets on the glass. Still growing well, looks like a run down back yard at the moment though. The hairgrass needs trimming but it seems to want to jump out of the substrate when I even think about going near it. The lil girl that lives there got a yellow belly and a black stripe now so the little girl is a little boy, will try and find 2 females for him soon. I got 2 bumblebee goby too, they are not sticking to surfaces much though, swimming mid level and chasing each other, one almost lost its black stripes too and gone very bright yellow, while the others gone more black in colour, I guess they're sorting out whos boss. Anway a couple of pics, they are from a few weeks ago as Ive been stripped of Mums camera by the evil teen sister.

Is it possible to get new fish onto the allowed list?
Nymox replied to breakaway's topic in Rare and unusual fish
What I gather from looking into the forms and such for the legalisation and importing of new species is thats its not too difficult to get a new species on the import list provided that sufficient research has been done on the species, this needs show that the species shows no threat to our natives, through disease and contamination of our streams, to the possibilities it has of surviving in our waters should a situation come where it might end up in our streams or rivers. The main goal is to make sure we dont end up with more things like gambusia, if it can be proven that that wouldnt happen then I dont see any reasons as to them not letting them be imported. There are plenty of well educated people on this forum that could provide a significant amount of the research data, that would cut costs down as well as the overall time to process the request. If enough people want the rays, then why dont we do something about it? -
I dont trust my fish without lids let alone the cat. He still manages to get his tongue down the tiniest gaps to get a drink of the good stuff. He had a look in the monster tank this morning and the massive female birchir came up to the glass to greet him, Ive never seen a cat run away from a fish before, Ill never forget it either.

I've been talking with my grandmother who is slowly gaining interest in the fish keep hobby, she's come up with an idea I think would be quite neat. She wants to use something like clay to mould covers for my powerheads which she'll then design to look like rock or driftwood. I have a few questions about getting her set up. What type of clay should we use? Missing a kiln so it would need to be something that can be set in the oven or just as easily. Is there anything better suited then clay? What kind of paint would be suitable for the task? It would be great for her to have a hobby she enjoys and I like the sound of the idea, the powerheads look a bit ugly in there. Any ideas and advice greatly appreciated.

oh fish keepers whats your power bill in the winter
Nymox replied to aaron11's topic in Beginners Corner
I cant think what else has changed though, my heater which I used last year isn't plugged in because all the tanks in my room keep it warm enough. Unless we have some kind of power leak. Never had a power bill this high. I thought heating all the tanks, plus all the lighting on 12 hours a day must add up, especially in the case of the garage tanks in the winter, its uninsulated in there. Now I just added the 860 ltr tank to the garage I can expect a higher bill next month too. I'll buy a few of those digital meters and get some readings, if there is a leak I wanna get on top of it asap. -

oh cool! I bet clown fry are cute.

I guess I should just add more gravel and replant, was looking for a shortcut but if I want it planted its the only real way  There was daltons propagating mix 20kg bags for $10 at the warehouse the other day, might see if there is still some, it looks the same as whats already in there more or less. Its not like doing the 50 ltrs though, almost a full days work, well it will be at my pace :-?

looking good guys! not to far off raising some clown fry then

hahaha yeah I remember that one it was a classic. What is clay like in tanks? Im wondering if I can squish clay around the roots, stick some of the sand to it so it looks the part and drop em in. I wonder if it would stay together though.
-
Ill give that another try but the ornates will just power through held down by rock or not, I kind of need something that allows them to move but stay sunken. The other thing is I cant really get my hand to the bottom of the tank, at least deep enough and delicately enough to plant. Damn huge tank, maybe I should just get plastic plants (EW!)
-
As far as lead poisoning goes im not concerned, thanks for all the help. Now, as for an alternative, I pulled up a few plants last night that I had weighed down with lead, and they were very choked. Im wondering if there is another way to keep them on the bottom long enough for the roots to be well established. Birchirs, specially the bigger ones dont dig but they go blundering through everything and unless its well rooted its floating by morning. I thought about trying something like clay, cover the roots and chuck a stone in.
-
Ok well what I gather it there should be no problem using it in tanks that have fish with shorter life spans, but to be careful Ill avoid it in tanks that have fish that live a while longer. The Bala sharks are already nuts enough without behavioural/mental/cognitive problems.
-
Thanks Any idea where I can buy it? I dont get enough through plants I get from the lfs. Is the lead used for the plants in tanks treated in any way?
-
I've been using the lead strips that come with plants to help keep them on the bottom when fish like the eels come through and dig everything up. Are there any ill effects long term?

I found what I think are neon rainbow fry in with some guppy fry. I dont know how they could have gotten in there. Very very tiny but I cant think what else they could be. They make 10 day old guppy fry look like monsters. Only way I think they could have ended up in there is if some duckweed had eggs on it and transferred over through the net. Seriously the smallest free swimming fry I have even seen.

Looking good Mark, nice video. Though doesnt do it justice it looks absolutely amazing to see it in front of you. Will the Packy grow his antenae back?
