  1. I like card 4 too, looks professional yet fun.
  2. Thats the only reason I dont use UGF's anymore. I prefer finer substrates. I ran 2 tanks both with UGF for just under a year and found them to be very good.
  3. haha I like the way you worded that! I've thinking about a lil 1 fish tank for a while now, something for the nieces to enjoy. That way their parents get the power bill
  4. Ouch, Ill have to seriously think about buying a fish off you then
  5. I reckon, its beautiful, almost making me want another betta but I dont think I could go through one dying again.
  6. Your not wrong there they blunder through everything. Although the tiger lotus and amazon sword have managed to stay planted along with most of the crypts. I think its just a matter of getting them in the right places, fish always scape my tanks. If I can get a tank planted with the spiny eels digging all the time Im sure I can manage with the birchirs, problem is my hand doesnt reach the bottom of the tank so its hard planting it.
  7. Nope. I thaw them to feed the DP, killies, gobies and ram fry. If I thaw them for that tank Iggy will eat them all before the others get a chance.
  8. Video: hand feeding the spiny eels. watch here
  9. Ok so Ive got the tank set up how I like it now, its running well and theres more then enough gravel to plant it out. Now I need to focus on some more lighting and getting it planted, considering the size of the tank I have some questions, as I've only dealt with planting smaller tanks up till now and lighting was easy, algae was the problem. Im going to remove the hood tomorrow and look at what lighting is there already, I know they are 8ft tubes of some kind. Ill add the tank dimensions and lighting details then as well as my questions about lighting. Anyway, Im still playing with my new camera so I took a couple of pictures of the tank as it is now. Water is a bit murky as I just added the last of the gravel before taking the pic.
  10. They are about 4 weeks old now, starting to show some of that nice neon colour. Still tiny although they eat like its their last meal. Only just starting taking microworms, bbs and small daphnia. I've been feeding them infusoria, egg yolk and jbl novofry 1 and they pick at the spounge filter all day. Im going to remove a few of the floating plants and stems from the tank the parents are in today and hope the same thing happens. They spawn all the time but finding the fertilised eggs isnt an easy task in a large community tank. I got this batch by luck, added indian fern to the guppy grow out tank and didnt notice them until a week later. Yes dirty Glass! but the fry find things to eat on it as well as its for the ramshorns to feed my puffer.
  11. Thanks bud thats a really good read
  12. I seen that one on the same site, Ill keep my mouth shut then
  13. What's black when you get it, red when you use it, and white when you're all through with it?
  14. glass is a liquid, that why glass cutters just score to break the surface tension.
  15. Hmm if its not ice then it must be glass? Liquid in nature, push too far and it breaks, and glass breaks sharp so it can scar.
  16. They look like slug eggs a fair bit apart from the inside. The only other egg I found that looks like them is Archey's frog eggs. The snail and slug eggs Im finding are a cloudy colour, these eggs are clear, the white comes from the young inside. I doubt they are Archey's frogs eggs though. Most likely snail or slug.
  17. I didnt realise they were so big, I can see the young developing inside the egg, they move around within the eggs. I can make out a head and tail and eyes. They look like tadpoles haha. I thought it was best to be safe then sorry, if they are snail/slug eggs I'll feed them out.
  18. ' I found them under a pot plant which unfortunately I had to move so I collected them up trying not to disturb them and am keeping them out of the light.

Added another 30kg of river sand, its about 3" deep now. I just added one or two handfuls twice a day, large water volume kept it from clouding up too much. Once my health returns a bit more Ill be able to get in there to plant it out. Will throw some pics up in a new thread once its under way.
  20. Oooh thanks Zev Ill look into that, you know far more about it then me it seems haha. I thought It was just the way it was because the lighting over the tank is purple
  21. Update. They are growing well, eating big fishy foods now (if I remember to feed them  )
  22. Im using too much to pay supermarket prices now, get a lot of dog noses on windows too so we already went through a fair bit before I got all these tanks, need bulk. Moses got the spotlight tonight, he smiles for the camera usually but wasnt feeling it. I got one shot but it was without the flash. Heres a few a took of him anyway, excuse the sleeping Nana. Nice one there that shows how the camera can capture the fast moving things. Note the drool tendril
  23. lol please do! I need to get to bin inn here for some glass cleaner, for an odd reason since Ive been fish keeping its always running out. Need to bulk buy as I spill water down the glass daily.
