  1. Haha no problem, Pedro it is! Im not to sure, I think hes a normal red as there are no markings, hes just that clay red colour. Though I wasnt aware there were different reds. Discus or not im still a long way off shredding my noobism
  2. Have you tried just whistling back? it takes a while to mimic but it sures gets them interested if you can do it right.
  3. Your not wrong there bro, Lance, well hes gunna have to be called red now, will take bloodworms out of my hand if he can get there fast enough which is rare but special none the less. Counted 12 bars on the discus if that can hold ya off till some piccys hehe.
  4. I didnt mention the discus got 4 beautiful 5 month olds from very very good parents, Will be posting pics when they are a little older and colour up some more. I think discus are the fish that pushes you from fish keeping enthusiast to fish nutter I already spend alot of time a week on my tanks, its just doubled!
  5. Raw king prawn? How much does that cost you lol those are the ones you get from the supermarket right? or are they tiger prawns? Looking at the pic of your lancelota Im almost certain its one, or at least a very close relation. Its also cleared up the fact that the lancelota I got free in cabomba all those months ago is acually a red whip, whos complaining with freebies tho right?? So i guess it means I need a lancelota now
  6. hehe make room! trust me you wont regret it! Im most likely going to start collecting these things now Ive caught the bug.
  7. Cant remember how much, I think around $45 My lancelot loves bloodworms, goes into a frenzy trying to complete with the other fish, he'll also eat cucumber, zuchinni and especially kumara. This new royal didnt seem fussed with the bloodworms, but hes scoffing the algae something fierce.
  8. similar expect for the colours. Markings were slightly different too. Im getting a little confused now though haha seen so many whiptail pics in the last 15 mins. That might be the one p44, so looks more like that then any other Ive seen. Markings and colour are very close. Damn I might be going back tomorrow it seems.
  9. Ill have a look, it wasnt black either, body, head and fins looked like that of a lancelot. Its was very light grey with black markings. Nice looking wee fish kinda wish Id have gotten him as well.
  10. It was the only one there and I didnt see it untill it was nearly too late. I was going to get the black whiptail they had there, and one of the staff asked if I had seen this one, as soon as it entered my gaze it was sold. I must have been really lucky to arrive when I did Im sure fish of this calibre wouldnt hang about for long before someone snaps them up. I chose Arthur because I already have a lancelot named Lancelot lol, figure why not get a few and have my own little knights of the coconut table.
  11. ouch lol, although Id have to admit Id be less tolerant if my tank was as well planted as yours, Ive been through this with my fire eel many a time haha would think ID have gotten used to it. This kinda gives an idea how ridiculously long Arthurs fin extentions really are, top one goes off the picture a good 2 cms at least. This one just shows the patterning, hes a cutey though. Still to early to get a good shot I get nothing but curtain reflection. TY :bounce:
  12. named the syno Asani, swahili for rebelious. A lil rebel alright, ripping up all my plants and he nicked off with the whole cube of bloodworms.
  13. How long had the tanks been running for before fish were added? Were you feeding the tank while it was cycling? My best bet is that the sudden increase in bioload and the filter couldnt manage. Make sure to add fish slowly to a new tank, and while it cycling fishless, drop some food in to give the bacteria something to feed off. That way by the time you go to add fish there is a good colony of bateria in the filter media. Adodge already answered this more or less but Id typed it out already hehe
  14. Well the only person I met from africa in my life had a name I couldnt pronounce to save myself. Senegal birchir got named Omar.
  15. Its so cute, definetly deserves a name.
  16. Hopefully I can get at least 5 or 6 females over the next few months all stable and healthy and get them breeding. Lovely little fish its a shame they are so fragile.
  17. Cool thanks for the heads up on the syno, fell in love with syno's from the first time I layed eyes on one so it was only a matter of time haha. Ive just let him them out of the baggy now so will give the glass a clean tonight and try get some snaps. Tank is nearish to a window so I get nothing but relection during the day. Another one of the rainbow females has dropsy, just as a heads up to anyone whos considering getting some dwarf neons they seem to be quite fragile, nothing wrong with the pet store where I got them they were in lovely conditions. I think its just the nature of the fish. Dropsy is really hard to see on them having such tiny scales too, I'll treat her in the hospital tank and give her a few days see what happens but I think her time is almost up already.
  18. Royal Whiptail The fin extentions on this guy are amazing, longer then the fish itself. Leopard Syno Just fell in love with the patterning. Only went in for 4 female rainbows haha, was hard to stop there too with all the great selection at Animal Antics. :bounce:
  19. Welcome Look forward to seeing a few pics of your tanks
  20. Ah yup I get what you mean it sounds like a good idea , while we are on the topic though is that aquatic mix worth doing on a well planted tank?
  21. Im thinking it would be best to go for a south american biotope. Val, swords and a shoal of cardinal tetras. As far as using swords and val, id prefer to have to have 2 maybe 3 kinds of plants in there, a tall one that can grow up the back and over the powerhead, and a shorter more grassy or bushy plant for the front. Can someone please give me the common names for some of the varieties we have here that I can use for this effect. I dont think Ill have any other fish then the tetras in there, even though these tanks can cope with a huge load, maybe a small school of corydora if I can get away with it, whats the smallest kind we can get here? Oh and P44 you mentioned layered substrate before, do you mean using something like daltons aquatic mix?
  22. Id happily start over but then it means no hairgrass, it was annoying to try get it going in that tank, took ages to take off and as soon as it did, BOOM goes the algae. Starting over would definetly mean biotope. Its a hard choice, these tanks are quite stunning when the plants are looking healthy. Will look into something a little out of the ordinary perhaps, open to ideas as always.
  23. Yuck its getting so bad lol. At least 3 different kinds of algae taking over in there. As there is no stock and it wont be stocked for about at least another month, whats something I could use to just smash the algae away completely without removing all the plants (dont wanna replant hairgrass would rather cut my losses with it) Surely theres something really potent out there.
  24. http://apps.facebook.com/mypersonality/index.php?notice=new_user&ref=8 Funny it suggests biological science, quite accurate considering I'm still doing enviro management and will most likely move on to zooology afterwards.
  25. I was interested untill it came to the part where I needed to install some plug-in to get the 400 credits to take the test.
