  1. He's got really nice markings snookie, and yeah very intelligent. I thought I would have come back to the thread being riddled with eels, doesnt seem like there is as many out there as I thought. I guess with the whole fussy eating habbits and escape tactics perhaps it has put people off. Especially when they dig up your plants daily
  2. So did I, the mag looks great, nice job Caryl
  3. Just interested as to what is out there. Throw up pictures if you like or just list them. I have: Fire Eel, 22cm Tire Track Eel, 33cm Zebra Spiny Eel, 12cm Half Banded Spiny Eel, 9cm Striped Peacock Eel, 10cm I'm interested in increasing my collection, The only aggression problems I have had between them was the TT and Fire Eel, TT just constantly chased and bit at the gills of the fire eel. The TT now lives with the massive ornate Bichirs, and has had to learn some manners. I want to learn as much as I can about these fish, so any experiences you have had would be great to read about.
  4. I found this stunning documentary series on youtube, the first episode is on sponges extremely interesting, how could I not share. There are 8 1 hour long documentaries. Watch Here on Youtube
  5. OK! lol forget the stupid fluval thing, I had no idea they are that bad. I'm not using diy co2 under no circumstances, I'll dig out the sodastream bottle contraption or bite the bullet and order the adapter. To clarify I have nothing against diy co2 or anyone who uses it, but as I've said I just don't like dealing with it, I've still got bottles of very very old mixture sitting out in the garage. Its a purely personal thing, DIY is great and Id encourage anyone to go for it, it works really well.
  6. I will have a look around at what I have tomorrow if I get time, I think there might be something that could work. I was originally thinking the focus point could possibly be a plant, something really beautiful that grows out of the top and flowers, I have a sword at the moment doing that in the 8 foot tank, looks really good because its has a wild untamed sort of effect.
  7. I know what you mean but I want to keep the work as minimal as possible, probably shouldn't bother with it at all but I love heavy planted tanks so much and have none at the moment. That's where I'm having trouble too, it will be open top so the plants can grow out but I'm not sure what style driftwood to go for. I was thinking of some twiggy root bits but I see that a lot lately and wouldn't mind something different. I just can't nail anything down right now. I just love how the gravel has turned out or I'd turf it. That he does, when it comes to planted tank there are few that can match his talents. I've so had enough of sticky water and messing around with all that. Would rather have no co2 then mess with that again, as cheap and effective it is there are just too many things about it that annoy me lol.
  8. Been having a good time playing with gravel this afternoon, have man flu so kinda not too good for much else at the moment. The reason its only a possible project is I'm still deciding if I'm going to keep it or not, maybe start again with a different tank, get a nice new one made out of optiwhite, Anyway enough dribble. !drool: Dimensions: 40x30x30 Filtration: Aqua One Clear View 100 (180L/hr) Substrate is JBL novo basis plus, with black silica sand and daltons #2 propagating mix on top. I will be buying Fluval Nano Pressurised Co2 Kit 20gm So basically here is where I've run out of steam, just drawn a blank. I have no idea where I want to go with plants, so I'm not sure about lighting it either. (don't want to get high lighting then decide I want anubias, java fern and the like) So I need inspiration and Ideas. Here is what I have now. I tried to make it look like it was part of something much bigger rather then being made in a box, still need to build it up more in a few places. I think I have it back to front... :-?
  9. Good on you for taking him on and bearing the vet bills,
  10. Thats the plan, let them all know what he can say and to keep an ear out.
  11. Aww WHAT! Ok well I'll let all my friends know if they hear anything I'll let you know, its even worse that they split up a pair. I really want to use a swear word right now......
  12. Thought about that but I think I would rather be patient and see if someone like Adrienne will sell me one some time, I've had a tank waiting for one for a while now
  13. All you guys with these nice fighters I get so jealous! I might go out looking for one today, but I doubt I'll find anything nice, just VT's or tiny fish that look like they need a decent feed. Would love to have a CT.
  14. This is a black one I picked up a while ago now.
  15. Love the top one he's beautiful, I want!
  16. I unplug them to use the power points for other things, I think it was the poly in between the wall and the tank, as temperatures now top at 26'c which is the temperature of the garage. Much happier fish, some even spawned again, so hope she doesnt eat them this time.
  17. Pretty much all of the above, just wonder how long its been like that, I don't keep a thermometer on the tank and haven't had my hand in there for weeks. Opened the lids up to let some of the heat out from the lighting, wondering about the column sump too now might have to look into using the fish bins again or getting something made up out of glass. Garage door will be opened up a bit when I'm home. lucky 5000 lph on the sump return pump, not to sure on the 101 sunsun.
  18. Well the thermometer went in after my hand, the initial shock was the nearly luke warm water, 3 thermometers were used to be sure. L.A. might be on to something there, much larger pumps used to drive the sump and water flow.
  19. Yeah well that's where I figured the polystyrene Id stored between the wall and the tank were the cause. Also 1000 lts of water would hold its heat better over night, then have more chance to heat up again during the day.
  20. Travelled hundreds of light years then crashed in a stream, such a shame so much probing to do.
  21. go to your user control panel, then to profile, look around there you will see edit avatar. Upload an image within the restrictions and your away.
  22. I would say out of a lot of fish Bichir would be the one of the least effected by those kinds of temps, they can take in oxygen from the air for one. And being from swamps I imagine over dry hot seasons the temp gets up quite high. I think how ever if a fish was already under some form of stress then it would be an issue for them.
  23. At least my power bill should be significantly down without heaters running. Last year it was about that temperature in my bedroom, glad i moved the larger tanks out to the garage now I can do more sleeping and less melting. Put my hand on the wall behind the 8 foot tank, very hot, I'm guessing its heating up during the day and holding the heat thanks to the polystyrene stored in between the wall and the tank.
