  1. hi all - i recently got some Sagittaria Microfolia (thanks to Adrienne) and it looked like it was doing ok but in the last week or so i've noticed that leaves appear to be dying off - i have cabomba, twisted val and one more plant that i forget the name of which appear to be growing slowly but nicely - all a nice lush green and from what i can see i dont have any algae on any of the plants. im running the lights about 10 hours a day - i dont have co2 running at the mo cause i broke my diffuser. im getting some flourish comprehensive in the next day or so - will that help ? ive got some flourish excel which i havent dosed in a while because of the twisted val - should i start dosing this in small amounts to save the val from melting? is there anything else i can do ? Cheers
  2. sorry to hear about your loss , dont give it up - you will regret it in a few weeks then want to buy it all back again
  3. have you tried the GIMP - its a free alternative to photoshop and has many of the features that photoshop does
  4. i just had a look but TVNZ dont use the same player as youtube etc so it may not be possible
  5. here it is http://tvnz.co.nz/animal-academy/s3-e10-video-3744308
  6. just be aware that the twisted val (i assume) will melt if you use to much flourish excel
  7. how much better at cleanup are they than the golden algae eaters ?
  8. if the tank was filled to within 1cm of the top and the glass is 6mm think all round its about 55L
  9. PH around 7 is OK for the fish you have - in saying that you would probably be better off with ammonia, nitrate and nitrite test kits than a PH kit.
  10. hi and welcome you should leave the filter on all the time - a tank cycle is where the bacteria in the filter media, substrate, and water column changes the ammonia produced by the fish etc to nitrite, then that nitrite changes to nitrate. it can take a couple of weeks or longer for that to happen. just do regular water changes about 30% every 4 days or so and you should be fine. hope that helps
  11. i agree with alanmin4304 - i had a breading pair of angels and every time they spawned they attacked the other angels in the tank until they died - it happened so quick as well so i would suggest to leave them apart.
  12. that is very true and not something i had thought about.
  13. Awesome, thanks for that. Now i have a shopping list I better redo my food tonight.
  14. thanks for the replies, i will disgard the mix and start again - henward - i found a previous post with your mix - is that still current ? if it is i will go by that - if not have you got an updated mix ? cheers
  15. i put one piece in the tank but the discus didnt eat it (they are new to the tank and still a bit shy) but the other fish pigged out - it looks like the garlic isnt being eaten but was sitting in the bottom of the tank - how much will garlic affect water quality ?
  16. heres mine - the pic was taken 1 week ago in Rarotonga
  17. i made up some food for my discus last night - but im getting a very over power smell of garlic - have i put too much in ? this is my recipe i used. 350gm raw ox heart 200gm raw fish 1x handful baby rocket salad mix 4x cloves of garlic 1x handful cooked shrimp 25ml to 50ml of water is this ok or should i go get some more change the amount of the ingredients ? i really should have asked before i blended it all up but its too late now cheers
  18. ok will get Carol to test it tomorrow - shes old and gone to bed already
  19. do you mean to just to see if the light turns of or permanently - there are 2x discus in there so we wont really want to drop the temp permanently
  20. haha yeah if only - i always see my heaters turn on and off - but this one is always on - carol has been checking it regularly - and the temp isn't getting above 27 degrees and drops overnight to about 24 so my thoughts were that it was faulty
