  1. so just let it be and keep doing some water changes every couple of days ? and add more plants for the turtles to destroy - they wasted about 15 o2 weed in a day so need to get something they dont really like to eat - any ideas ?
  2. hmm green water - is this normal for a pond while it gets established ? its had water in it for about 2 weeks - the turtles look happy but my water has gone green and i cant see the bottom of the pond. any ideas ?
  3. most LFS should do free water tests for you - i would take a container in to them and ask if they can test all params cause you think you have a sick fish
  4. if i were building this stand i would do the following timber frame - 574x274 and a center brace - x2 back panel - 610 x height front panel - 610 x height - and then cut this into 3 along the 610 width - 2x will be height of the frame above so 2" high and the rest will be used for doors which you will then cut vertically. else if you use fill height for doors they will rub on carpet or flooring. side panels - 274 x height - x2 Top - 610 x 310 Bottom (2 choices) - 610 x 310 to be as low as you can or 574 x 274 to become a shelf in the bottom of the cabinet
  5. maybe - what are your tank dimensions and the volume of water in it ?
  6. that last one would make it a similar design to mine but i also put "skirts" around the top and bottom to hide the panels above and below my doors - the top one also covers about 30 - 40 mm to hide the white poly under the tank - and as smidey says i have a vertical in the center to stop any sagging. - this peice is from the floor to the top of the stand. if you want i can make a quick sketch on my design to give you some basic ideas
  7. i just use an iron and steam to take the indentations out - make sure you have a tea towel under the iron so you dont kill the carpet - it works a treat
  8. yeah because the size of the hole is 35mm wide - thats why i suggested seeing a cabinet maker or buying a hindge cutter drill bit you wont be disappointed if you use these hindges, they are sturdy as and help to keep the door closed since they self close after a certain point
  9. that might not have come out like it was meant too - its not a normal drill for doing the door side the right hand side of the hindge above is for the door - theres a 35mm hole about 12mm deep that the hindge sits in - they call them hindge cutters from memory
  10. with the doors you will need to get a drill bit that does a nice tidy hole - or take them to a cabinet maker to drill them for you - from memory the drill bit is about $20 or so from bunnings too - can take a photo of that tomorrow if required cause it makes it a nice and clean finish
  11. they are now camera and flash dont make it look quite right - but they are deffinately straight
  12. i used one sheet of wood that i cut into the correct shape then cut in half - the hindges are adjustable as well
  13. placemakers have them as well but they cost double the price from bunnings from memory
  14. if you go to bunnings - get some 20$ hindges that close when they get to about 50% shut you will be fine - have used them in both of my stands - there are about 10 different "models" that close in different fashions - so just check they close the door in the correct place etc - they should have a set of each made up so you can see where the back of the door will sit etc..
  15. I've got a garmin nuvi 1390 "widescreen" - had a 265 "standard 4x3" and liked them both - they are easy to use and someone at jbhifi once told me they are ideal for old people cause they are so easy to use - hehe. for non technical people they are the easiest to use out of all of the gps units i have tested, ive tried the navman S100, and one of the tomtoms. also you can get free map updates from an opensource website for - and another site has free maps for alot of other countries... 16. we got some synthetic carpert from the warehouse - but didnt like the look of it - so we went on the hunt last night for a large-ish chunk of driftwood - found the perfect peice that let me "sculpt" it to what i needed - it was odd shaped and the turtles wouldn't have been able to climb up it as it was so the old chainsaw came in handy this morning
  17. haha good idea but now i have no where to put them - one day in our next house i might get a 3rd tank built into wall or something and get some then :bounce:
  18. yep for sure - i want these guys to survive outside so im trying to learn as much as poss before winter comes - going to look at getting some sort of long plastic container on it side or something that they can hide in which they may use for winter or just general hiding out got myself a huge peice of driftwood tonight so will have to chop that down a bit so it sits low enough in the water for the turts to climb onto for basking - also will getting some dirt or mix of dirt / sand to put into my daughters sandpit for if / when my girls decide its time to lay eggs since it looks like i didnt put enought thought into the basking / egg laying side of things when i was designing the pond
