  1. the box and heater both say they are good to 150L - Carol is my "outlaw" - hehe - the room is pretty warm she keeps a gas heater going at night and yet the tank is sitting at 27 degrees. i really dont understand why the jagers light would be on 24/7 unless its faulty ?
  2. i dont know if the val will regrow but i had heard that excel will melt val - im doing small doses of 5ml per 100L and my twisted val hasnt melted yet only putting that in once a week.
  3. making it out of sleepers will make it one HEAVY as base - would your floor withstand the weight ?
  4. We are in Miramar, have pm'd you my contact numbers.
  5. i just remembered that the animates in wlg has some large convicts in with turtles (not sure how long they last for or if they are still in there so something fast and semi aggresive might be ok)
  6. i have my turtles in a pond with 14 goldfish - so it can be done but i would say in a small confined space like a tank the fish would become food
  7. since your in welly you can borrow my one if you like - think its about 40L - i have used it for that purpose a couple of times now
  8. i would say a single float switch would be best
  9. i was trying to find the post where i had done this before but couldnt find it - heres what i did anyway * move as much water into buckets and chilly bins as possible * move the heater and fish in the chilly bin * pull out the stones with a dustpan * put in the washed sand * replace the water from other buckets and make sure the water is back up to normal temp * move the fish back to the tank and top up the water as required i turned my canister off until the water was back up to the top, about 1.5 - 2 hours, i didnt bother bagging just in the chillybin with as much water as possible. seems to be the least stressful way for the fish bar catching them to begin with Thanks heaps
  10. how long after they started building a cave did they lay eggs ? mine have been moving sand around for about a week now - i dont think there is much left under the log they are excavating
  11. i have 1 nasty one and a couple of really placid ones. the nasty one use to be a really shy fish when i first found it and rescued it - then i put it with mine and it is now the boss of the tank
  12. looks like the golden barbs are really only good for 24 degrees - http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/barbs/goldbarb.php - so they may not last very long at the 30 odd degrees you need for discus - as mentioned by phoenix44 get a good sized shoal of cardinals and have the discus. Pheonix44 is there anything that CarolDaisy3 needs to know about discuss - shes newish to fish keeping i built a stand for her new 128L tank so she will be upgrading from a jebo 38L shortly
  13. you could always give me back the golden barbs when you get the discus and bunch more neons or cardinals
  14. are cardinals a better option from the neons ? they look very similar but im not sure if they are hardier than neons
  15. watch your tiger barbs nipping at the angels - my angels had no long finage while with my tiger and golden tiger barbs
  16. I recently (6-7 months ago) had hole in the head with one of my green severums (about 5 small holes about 2mm in size) - i started doing 2x weekly 40% water changes to get really clean water, and checked all water params - i bought GH and KH tests to check hardness as well as some people said this could be an issue. i found my hardness levels were on the low side of this websites values http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/south-american-cichlids/green-severum/100020.asp so i bought some JBL AquaDur Plus from http://www.petmart.co.nz/cart_search.html?Search=aquadur&x=0&y=0 - i up'd the hardness about 2 degrees and after about 2 months i found that the HITH had cleared up 100%. hope that helps Skip

  18. are you on MSN Messenger ? if you want i can try to help you out over remote assistance ?
  19. I've got the Garmin 1390 - its been described by a sales person as a GPS for old folks - i.e its REALLY REALLY easy to use - im in my early 30's so im not technically inept - but my mum has used it and she loved it - in fact she has loved this one and the one i had previously (- said it was better than my dads navman S100) - also there is a group of people that do free open source map updates so you can always have up to date maps
  20. i had the 400D but when that got stolen it was replaced with the 500D - both great cameras so im sure the 1000D will be just as good
  21. yeah its kinda different to the others in the pond (as different as an orange goldfish can be :bounce:)- its still pretty healthy looking so i think its worth giving it a try
