Put the heater on and the room is now 20c.

I have one of those cheap $20 masterpet heaters (250 watt in a 165 litre tank) and I have only had it a 5 or 6 months and now it has stopped working. The light goes on but the heater does not heat up. You used to be able to see the wire in it glowing at night and the tank is (currently) 20c. Do you think the fish (basic tropical comunity tetras, livebearers, angels cats etc) will be fine until I can get a new heater tomorrow? Also what is a good quality replacement heater that is reasonably priced? Thanks all.

I dont get any of those ads as I use the ad block plus extention on my web browser its great.

How can you hate the cadbury eyebrow ad? It is the best ad on tv.

There is also that Airwick aquaessense fragrance ad that has a swan (I think its a swan) that says that it is inspired by plants grown in water. I personally think that plants grown in water don't smell that nice at all.

I like the cadbury ad I think it is really cool.

There are several ads that are really annoying at the moment. 1. The ad where the lady buys her kids and icecream because they have had their morning calcium, their lunch calcium but not their afternoon calcium. :roll: 2. The Telecom XT ad where they compare the time it takes for a speedboat to complete a set circuit to the speed of their new phone network. I really don't see how they can be compared. :roll: and 3. The ad where the man has to choose between cough medicine or honey to sooth his throat. :roll: What ads annoy you?

So if I really wanted to keep it it would be best to keep just the one?

I don't know for sure but maybe it is because they spread out their aggression within their own school instead of nipping the other tank mates. I know that is how it works for some fish.

I think I would rather keep it and just put up with the occasional nip. It has not been that bad.

Why do all the cool looking fish have to be so problematic?

I brought a blind cave tetra a few months ago with the intention of getting a few more later on. In the time I have had mine it has taken a few bites out of some of the other fish . Should I sell it or would buying a few more stop the nipping because they would concentrate more on their own school? Thanks

~165 litre basic planted community.(livebearers, danios, tetras, betta, catfish etc) ~20 litre quarantine ~30 litre fry tank (1 apple snail, 1 platy fry and 1 leopardfish fry) ~50 litre (soon to be planted) comunity (7 ember tetras, 3 otocinclus and 3 sparkling gourami.) ~20 litre freshwater mussel tank (would not have brought the mussels if I knew there population numbers were dropping)

All my red tail black shark does is hide and eat zuccini. He seems really peceful.

All the websites I have seen say that the red tail sharks are fine and peceful in comunity tanks.

Would a red tail shark fight with an albino rainbow shark?

I am pretty sure that the leopard danios can interbreed with the zebras as the leopards are just a colour morph.

My parents have already offered to pay for some of the project. If I acclimatise them slowely and only do a few tests a day I dont think they would get that stressed. I may even be able to create some sort of holding tank that is connected to the main tank and the fish just swim through when I remove another devider.

Actually I think I will try Olly's idea. I really wanted to do something with schooling size but could not think of an experiment with measurable results. I guess in an unheated aquarium I am limited to white clouds or danios. How many should I use. Thanks :bounce:

Hello I am doing science fair at school (Year 10 (I think thats 4th form)) and I would like to do something involving fish or aquatic snails. Obviously it cant be anything cruel and it has to have measurable results that can be graphed. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for a science fair project I could do. I have a couple of spare 13-20 litre tanks and filters but no spare heaters. Thanks

I have also had them with kuhlis and it was fine. I think the gold bristlenoses dont grow as big as the normal ones but I am not 100% sure.

UPDATE: Some of the fish seemed stressed so I turned down the temp and decided to add a half dose of wunder whitespot cure as this worked on my ember tetras. Should I run the filter while medicating the tank? (It does not contain carbon) My thaughts are that if I run the filter the med will kill the good bacteria but if I dont run the filter the ich will still be in the filter. Thanks
