  1. Someone on the 1-day facebook page has posted a pic of there usb tank with a Siamese fighting fish in it. I bet that post will get some criticism.
  2. There are uses for them such as aquascapes but I bet the large majority of buyers end up killing a fish or two. It's been pulled by the looks of things.
  3. My friend and I were showing one of the international students from school around Nelson's Natureland Zoo and we came across a morphed axolotl in their aquarium. The sign read axolotl but It had no gills and they had given it land access. It was definitely an axolotl though, I own one myself. All the staff were busy so I was unable to ask if they had done anything to cause it to morph or if it was just by chance. I had always been under the impression it required specific chemicals in the water. Any thoughts?
  4. I have a small hillstream tank which is just under 50 litres. I have 3 hillstream loaches (Gastromyzon ctenocephalus) in it at the moment and would love some white clouds. The powerhead is very strong though 1200LPH! (Trademe mixup) The hillstreams love it though and they have fantastic blue colours in their fins and are very active. I am thinking about adding a small school of white cloud mountain minnows to the tank but do you think the flow rate might be too high for them. The powerhead powers an undergravel filter to create a bit of a river effect. I also use another internal power filter too.
  5. Why get angry over something so small? People always seem to hate it when something they use so often changes. I like it but I don't think it matches the logo.
  6. Too late. I'm using JBL aquabasis plus underneath the burnt sienna which also absorbed and stores nutrients when they have been depleted. I did look into manado but prefer the look of the burnt sienna.
  7. When I had mine they ate courgette too. Loved the stuff.
  8. Yeah I put a heap of Indian fern in there for now and a spare coconut cave.
  9. I picked up a freshwater dwarf puffer from Organism driving through Christchurch the other day and currently it is in a bare cycled 27L aquarium. I would like to turn this tank into a biotope aquarium and am going to be using a JBL plant substrate with burnt Sienna gravel on top to replicate the red, iron rich substrate from their natural environment. I am unsure on what plants to use and still need to purchase a lighthood (anyone got a small one to sell?) so if anyone can give me some ideas on what to do that would be great. I might do something with the excess narrow lead java fern in my community tank and might purchase some Cryptocoryne. Any general tips on dwarf puffers would also be greatly appreciated.
  10. Don't forget that many larger tablet systems now run on android too so your not necessarily restricted to a confined workspace.
  11. Been thinking. I don't know much about programming or app development but I have used this software called nyagua before on PC . Surely it could be ported over to android as it is open souce and written in Java (same as android apps are). It does pretty much all the stuff that has been mentioned by everyone else including a fish database pulled from the fishbase website. I host my nyagua database file online on my Dropbox account so I can access it from any computer. Dropbox is already available for android so if it were ported I could use it on the go and sync it with other computers. I suppose the only problem with doing this is that you wont be able to sell it and make a profit as it's open source software.
  12. Why not fill it with a thousand ember tetras? :slfg:
  13. Sounds like a great idea. I have been wanting an app like this on my android for a while.
  14. Mine is in a heavily planted tank and hides a lot, he does come out occasionally at night though. I have never seen him eat snails but then again it seems to be the only tank I have without snails.
  15. Might not be a good idea then as that would make a lot of noise.
  16. There are holes at either end if the water level gets too high.
  17. The powerhead that drives the built in wet-dry over top filter in my aquaone 850 (165L) aquarium is rated for 1000lph and is starting to show its age with some wear and tear and is loosing output pressure. Would there be any technical problem with replacing it with a higher output powerhead, say 2000lph? There are some smallish fish in the tank but they should be able to handle the increase in water flow. Thanks
  18. Some websites say that their can be quite a it of pattern variation. I guess I will just wait and see.
  19. According to http://www.loaches.com about 10cm so not a whole lot bigger. This website also says they have wide black bars like one of the new ones but image searches for myers loach have come up with many different patterns. I don't think it's a kuhli as all my kuhlis have spotty patches like these ones: http://www.fishlore.com/aquariummagazin ... hes-lg.jpg
  20. No Petz 'n' All had them although I do occasionally buy fish from petmart too. I also put my name down for another upside down cat so hopefully my current one will become a bit more active. I had always just assumed the Hillstreams were mislabeled but now I know. Thanks.
  21. I purchased two giant kuhli loaches AKA Myers loaches today and their markings are completely different. I'm pretty sure they are not normal kuhli loaches as they don't look much like my 8 kuhlis but are they both Myers loaches??? They are both still quite small so they are in my leopardfish tank 22c-24c until they get a bit bigger than my angels mouth. 22. I was given some eggs from a friend and I managed to hatch out the majority in a breeding trap with an air-stone in my main tank. Does anyone have any tips for raising the fry to adult hood?
  23. You could have two but I would get a better filter. With a better replacement/additional filter you could do less water changes and them minimize the stress in your axolotl tank.
  24. 8.2 should be fine for an axolotl. Last time I checked our tap water is was about that and my axolotl is fine. Unless you keep fish with very specific water conditions then messing with PH usually just causes more problems.
  25. I run a couple of AquaOne percission airpumps and they are fantastic. Not too noisy, cheap and a 3 year warranty.
