  1. Just have 1 male to 2 or more females and wait. Nothing else to it really.
  2. Nope. Masterpet would probably tell you if you called them.
  3. I bought a small bottle of master pet Steri-Lizer for about $6. I just fill a bucket with water and the master pet Steri-Lizer, keep it in my aquarium cabinet and change it about once a week. The only con is you have to leave the items in the solution for 12 hours.
  4. Are most otocinclus in new zealand tank bred or wild caught?
  5. Thanks. Yeah one of the otos is bigger. They almost seem slightly blueish.
  6. I am also aware that the otos are not easy to breed. They have been chasing each other all night and day. I got one on Friday and one on Sunday.
  7. Ok I am rather excited. I know next to nothing about breeding egg layers. I have a quarantine tank with 1 blind cave tetra and 2 otocinclus. The tank is bare. apart from a heater, filter, piece of zucchini and the eggs. The eggs are white and on the bottom of the tank. If I post a pic is their any chance of of identifying them? If they are from the blind cave tetra will they hatch or do you need a male in there to ? (as I said before I know next to nothing about breeding egg layers) What are the chances of any fry surviving if they are oto eggs? Can oto parents be in with the eggs? Any other info would be very helpful thanks :bounce:
  8. I only added 5 tablespoons of salt as that is all I had left and I have not braught any more yet (keep forgetting). The ich is not on the fish anymore. I read in several places that heat alone (30c+) can kill ich and I had turned my tank up to 32c for the past 7 days with no ill effects on the fish. So how much longer should I keep the tank at that temp to make sure I have killed off all the ich that is not on the fish? Thanks :bounce:
  9. Well I did a bit of research and read that I should add 1 teaspoons per gallon (165 litres = 43.5883886 US gallons) every day for 3 days. Sounds a little safer than just chucking a whole lot in  I dont think I have enough aquarium salt so I will go get some tomorrow. The brooklands tonic salt is the stuff to use right?
  10. How much salt? DO you think the plants would be ok with salt? Thanks
  11. Wouldn't salt harm the corydoras (bronze) and possibly the loaches etc?
  12. Actually flying foxes and SAEs are 2 different species of fish (take a look at http://fins.actwin.com/aquatic-plants/m ... 01024.html). The SAEs are more likely to eat the algae. I have had allot of luck with flourish excel. Good luck :bounce:
  13. My 165 litre tank that contains some sensitive fish (tetras, kuhli loaches, corydora, bristlenose and a small spiny eel) has come down with ich . Is there any way I can cure it without harming the fish, the plants or the good bacteria. I read that turning up the temp to 30-32c will kill the ich after about 10 days and the fish have had no ill effects at this temp for the past 4 days but does heat treatment actually work. I also decided to buy a quarantine tank for when I buy new fish so that I have less problems in the future. Thanks :bounce:
  14. Thanks I should be there. Jacob :bounce:
  15. No sorry but those ones sound good. :bounce:
  16. I have a half banded spiny eel in with a female betta (and other fish) in a planted tank and dont have any problems..... Yet. :bounce:
  17. If your tank is large enough you could try one of the smaller spiny eels.
  18. Well I am sorry to say he passed away. He was so colourful and I really liked that fish.
  19. I am setting up a hospital tank (using cycled media from another filter) with a bit of tonic salt for now. I cant bring myself to euthanize it.
  20. I did use the search function but I found mixed information. Do you think it is worth trying to cure? :bounce:
  21. My favorite fish a male banded gourami has dropsy 1. Is it curable? 2. If so how do I cure it? 3. Is it contagious? Should I separate it? 4. Is it true that it could be cause by feeding too many bloodworms? Thanks :bounce:
  22. Thanks I will probably just pick up a cheap lamp at the local recycling shop and fit it with one of those powersave lightbulbs. :bounce:
