  1. It's dark green almost brownish in spots. Some is long but some is short. It looks like this http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dLGw_s0RLUw/R ... %2B024.jpg but darker. What light time should I aim for?
  2. I do a 50 litre water change once a week (its a 165 litre). Do you think I should do it twice a week? :bounce:
  3. In my freshwater community tank there is this feathery algae (I assume it is hair algae.) covering the plants and driftwood and it is starting to get out of hand. What would be the best way to clear it up. I got talking to a guy in the the local pet shops who said that he knew someone with an algae filled tank who had gone away for a week and used a vacation pyramid feed block. When she came back the tank was completely clear of algae. I dont see how that would work though. :bounce:
  4. As far as I know leopardfish are legal. They are also simple to breed as they dont usually eat their fry. :bounce:
  5. If the tank was kept about 18-20c maybe even 16 it could work but a full grown goldie would eat a guppy. I really don't see the point in feeding you axolotls guppies as they don't really offer any nutritional value. :bounce:
  6. When I first started fish keeping I had danios in coldwater and the lowest recorded temperature was 14c. I brought them as coldwater danios. I assume they were already acclimatised to that temperature in the shop or they were born/bred in cold water. :bounce:
  7. Have a look at this: http://www.eheimasiapacific.com/prod_e_ ... 3eusb.html :bounce:
  8. Its written by Deirdre Coleman and it features a nice photo of an extremely rare golden eel (leucistic longfin). :bounce:
  9. There is a great article on New Zealand eels and their decline on page 32 of the march issue of the New Zealand pet magazine. :bounce:
  10. Actually Now I am thinking of getting just a figure 8 puffer but I am finding mixed information about them. Are they brackish or freshwater? I dont mind either way. Also can they be kept with other fish and if so what ones? :bounce:
  11. Hello I have a 50 litre I was going to use for hillstream loaches but have since decided to try a brackish tank. Can you please help me with a few questions? 1. Can I use natural sea water mixed with tap water or do I need to use expensive marine salt mixes? 2. About how much does a basic hydrometer cost? 3. What should I stock it with the only brackish fish I have seen for sale are mollies (which I am not a huge fan of) and orange chromides that are not suited to a tank that is only 50 litres. I have seen a bumble bee gobie for sale once but have not seen them since. I really like the bumble bee gobies and puffers. Would they be suitable for a 50 litre if I can source some? Can they be kept together? Thanks :bounce:
  12. My tank is set to 22 and it gets up to 28 also. All my fish seem fine :bounce:
  13. LOL Caryl who was it you said would be annoyed if they dont get theirs first? :bounce:
  14. I received mine before February YAY ME :bounce: Thanks Caryl it was a great read :bounce: Jacob
  15. Would boiling them destroy snails (eggs) and algae? :bounce:
  16. Hello how can I make river rocks aquarium safe? Thanks :bounce:
  17. I readv online that in the hillstream loaches natural habitat the water can flow about one meter per second. I am terrible converting imperial to metric
  18. So do you think it would be ok Ira? and do the seio pumps actually rotate or do you adjust it manually? :bounce:
  19. Ok i will look around for a slower pump. I did do the calculations but i have never really dealt with powerheads before so i was not really sure what the flow would look like. Do you think a 1000 LPH would be a better option as that's 20 times an hour? Would that heat the water too much? Also is it ok if the pump just has a narrow stream or should i have a spray bar? Thanks everybody :bounce:
  20. The one i was looking at has an adjustable flow.I think the direction automatically changes the pump i am looking at getting is a Seio M620. http://riopump.net/products_pumps/seio_models.html :bounce:
  21. The sand is very heavy and I have read all the hillstream information on that site. The annoying thing is the 2400L/HR pump is the cheapest. :bounce:
  22. so would 2400L/HR be too powerful :bounce:
  23. Thanks Do you think a SEIO M620 WAVE POWERHEAD 2400L/HR would be too powerful? :bounce:
