  1. The sand is heavy. Are these loaches likley to escape? these is a small gap between the hob filter and the lid. The powerhead I was thinking of getting is a SEIO M620 WAVE POWERHEAD 2400L/HR but do you think that would be too powerful? I was thinking of adding a few wcmm as well :bounce:
  2. Hey I have a spare 60cmL by 30cmW by 30cmH aquarium and i would like to get some hillstream loaches for it. 1. is the tank big enough? 2. does the flow just have to go in one direction with the powerhead intake at one end and the output at the other or can I just have one pump at one end and have a whirlpool effect? 3. What temperature should it be? 4. How many litres per hour should the pump do? 5. is sand an ok substrate if I have some flat rocks on top of it? and any other info would be helpful thanks. :bounce:
  3. A morphed axolotl is an unwanted organism. It does not decrease their lifespan More info here: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=34191
  4. We buried him out in the garden. Now i have a 50 litre 60cm by 30cm by 30cm aquarium And i dont know what to do with it. These are my ideas: 1. Have a couple of fire bellied newts. 2. Turn it into a hillstream loach aquarium. (if i can find somewhere to plug in a power head and heater next to the 13 plugs the other 5 tanks use) 3. Make it brackish with a few mollies, orange chromides and bumblebee gobies. What do you guys think i should do? :bounce:
  5. Yeah its kind of speckled and a few chips here and there. :bounce:
  6. It looks like a giant trumpet snail. Its about 5cm long and does not appear to have an operculum. I cant get the image function to work so here is the link. http://i41.tinypic.com/2cp2i2p.jpg :bounce:
  7. Well I am sorry to say Axel passed away tonight. He will be greatly missed. Thanks for all the help.
  8. He fell about a meter and has a few cuts. I got some malafix as it was the only recommended medicine that did not contain malachite green or metals. Otherwise I would have just used wunder tonic. I also added stress coat
  9. Ok now he is floating allot and has fin rot also he is not eating. What can i treat the finrot with. malachite green and many metals in medication are toxic to amphibians. Also the tank contains a freshwater mussel but that can be put in another tank if needed.
  10. Would adding an airstone and pump help? I heard this can decrease the temperature.
  11. Ok This morning i found Axel (my axolotl) on the floor behind my bookcase . Luckily he was still alive . He must have jumped out the gap between the HOB filter and the lid when he was darting around the tank. I changed back to the old internal filter i previously used so there is no gap and i put Axel back in the tank. Now he has a small cut on his tail and he just looks terrible. I read that they often escape if the water quality is bad or too hot. I did a 20% water change and the temp is reaching 24c. Is that temp too high :-? ? If so how can i safely keep the tank cooler :-? ? How can i help him recover :-? ? Thanks a lot
  12. Mine have Nutrafin Max betta flake as a staple but they get bloodworms and other foods as well.
  13. Pepsi Coutdown or Woolworths

    Hello

Hi I am Axolotl-Danio AKA Jacob. I am 14 and recently joined my local club. I have made a few posts already but have not really introduced myself. I have a 165 litre peaceful planted community aquarium, a 50 litre Axolotl aquarium, a 10 litre male betta splenden aquarium, a 20 litre Leopardfish Phalloceros caudimaculatus breeding setup and a spare 20 litre i might breed guppies in. Plus also 2 cats and 3 chickens. My other interests are: Biking, Electronics, Computers and plants. I have a reasonable amount of aquarium knowledge but hope to gain a lot more. :bounce:
  15. I guess you are both right. I will stock it slowly and see how it goes.
  16. I guess that's a good way to go about it but I dont really like to stock just by looks. I would rather get a few opinions and then see what i can work out. I have never stocked a tank that large before and some of those fish i have never dealt with before so i could not really stock it just by looks i would rather have some other peoples inputs.
  17. No i dont have sand I find the kuhlis just burrow into the Lilaeopsis novea-zealandiae. How about: 6 kyathit danios 6 glolight tetras 6 bronze corydoras 1 golden bristlenose 1 ram (are they fine by themselves or do i need a pair) 1 female betta 3-6 kuhli loaches 3 platies and a few leopardfish It will be well planted.
  18. What sort of setup would you need to keep Palaemon affinis AKA New Zealand glass shrimp? Are the strictly marine or could they be in freshwater if acclimatised? What sort of setup would be the minimum?
  19. so would 6 kyathit danios 10 glolight tetras 6 bronze corydoras 1 golden bristlenose 2 Apistogramma borellii 1 female betta 3-6 kuhli loaches 1 dwarf gourami and a few leopardfish be ok?
  20. Would some rams or kribensis be ok? What about keyholes? If all the schools where at 6 and i removed 1 of the plecos would it still be overstocked?
  21. :bounce: 165 litre aquastyle 850 :bounce: means i defiantly want these. :-? means i am happy to adjust it to your suggestions. 6-10 kyathit danios 6-10 glolight tetras 6-10 bronze corydoras 1 golden bristlenose 1 normal bristlenose :-? 2 dwarf cichlids (what would you recommend) :-? 1 female betta 3-6 kuhli loaches 3 myers hillstream loaches (will add powerhead and spray bar) :-? 1 dwarf gourami :-? a few leopardfish (phalloceros caudimaculatus *spelling*) if my other leopard tank gets overstocked. Well planted. Lots of wood and hiding places. Does that sound ok? Could I add more? What would be a good temperature?
  22. Can they be kept in an aquarium? Can they survive in freshwater? what sort of setup would i need? Thanks allot
  23. Hello Would a 20 litre be too small for a few hillstream loaches (myers)? It has lots of aeration and a powerful internal filter. If so whats the minimum tank size?
