  1. I'm pretty sure you can carry on using your hose to fill up the tank.. I am only using normal tap water and doing 3 trips with 2 buckets. I'm only using cold water too. discus don't seem to mind either, in fact none of my fish mind.
  2. I change about 30% twice a week and replace it with normal tap water. My fish and discus don't mind at all. No Aquaplus either
  3. Condolences BlueandKim However you now have room for more fish
  4. A piece of fish also works well
  5. Give it a try Alan Killies would go well down there, especially if they want something smallish. You have heaps of spare tanks and lots of time... Rose could even help out
  6. I would recommend something along the lines of: A School of White Cloud Mountain Minnows. couple red fantail goldfish. They would brighten the tank

    oranda heads help

Feed a little, but often. don't want to pollute the tank do we?

    oranda heads help

Yep.... Guess what I am reading. Congrats on the babies. Best thing to do is to keep feeding them good food and live food as well. you will need to do some culling at some stage too to get rid of the single tail ones. heads will come eventually. be patient. Wok
  9. Well done Grandad Alan In another 7 years you will have a helper for your fish room congrats to mom and dad as well

    Peacfull loach???

As hummingbird has said Clown Loach is a good one. I have 2 in my 4ft tank and they don't nip
  11. Mono Propolene Glycol is a good alternative. it is safe as well. Used as a food ingredient in some products and works like an anti-freeze. can be purchased through places like Swift International. Not too expensive either.
  12. If you already have an external canister filter I would not bother about getting a $30 attachment for undergravel. The canister filter will be fine doing its job by itself. Spend the $30 on either more fish or more tanks.
  13. Baby is cute. you bold too?  Nice tank though
  14. Indian fern and the water sprite I guess can be container grown. I normally push them into the gravel fo them to grow but when they get big and the leaves reach the top of the water level they begin to reproduce. Guess there would be no harm in trying. I've been meaning to head out your way and have a look at all your discus. could do it this weekend if you are interested.
  15. I have heaps of Indian fern and water sprite, if you are interested Phill. both float on top of the water and grow quite readily.
  16. lots of Indian fern and water sprite. The speed that these grow at their would be too much of it for your pleco to finish it all

    Fish Food

The normal usage of expirey and best before dates in the food industry is that: Expirey. product should not be used after this date as it might not be good for you. (just like what Ira said) Best Before: product will be still good up to the date stated but can be consumed after that date without much detriment to your health but your taste buds might rebel. ie Bread, it has a best before date of a week but you can still eat it after that provided you don't mind eating mould but with fish food..... you can take a risk.... if it has bugs crawling all over it then you have live food which is better than flake
  18. I've had 9 bn with my 3 discus and there seems to be no problems.
  19. better still dig a hole and fill it with water. best way of getting a bath is to go for a drive around the neighbourhood and see if you can score a free one  thats how I got my 5
  20. Port Hoplo catfish do ok in cool water as well. I have 2 in my goldfish tank
  21. We make better friends since we have won the Lion vs Al Blacks series  If it were the other way around we would only be good friends
  22. They will be fine with the Bn and guppies. I currently have them in the same tank as my Guppies and bn as well as discus, kribs, rams
  23. if you get the clown loaches when they are small it would be ok as the clowns grow really slowly. Another loach that works well is the striata loach. these are small and also do a good job at demolishing populations of snails cheaper too
  24. for the orandas, if you wait till the wen (growth on the head) forms then you could get quite a bit for them. As for the calico fans then I would only imagine a couple bucks for them
  25. what type of filter are you running? I would just rinse out the sponge with tank water and put it back into the filter
