  5. Hi Werner It really was a meeting as such, more of a get together and share our experiences on keeping killies. Talked at the possiblility of have more get togethers so that we can share information, fish and really meet people in real life so that we can then place a real name and face to the Nicknames we have here in this forum. Also it is a good way for newbies to killies to find out how we others keep killies and any unusual tricks that we each do that works for us and to keep the number of killies up, so if one of us is missing one of the sexes then hopefully another member is able to provide that missing sex so that breeding can continue. Another thought came up in that in each region killie members could meet up and do the same. ie southland members could meet together and share their experiences and when that member goes travelling they can then meet up with others around the country. Welll had 4 members shown up on such short notice but I believe it was still worth doing. Must get another get together going next month.... maybe over a bbq perhaps.
  6. Condolences Mitch. my sympathies are with you..... makes you wonder whether going cold water would be better. Well with so many people here willing to help I am sure that fishroom will be up and running again soon.

  13. In that case Jude... I feed my kids bread (unsoaked) with out the edges, dead fish (salmon) and some fresh fruit as well as yoghurt
  14. I feed mine bread soaked in water.. but I break up the bread so that there is more edges for them to eat and multiply. I have also use luncheon, dead guppies and silver sharks... they seem to like a bit of meat in their diet. wholemeal bread also works quite well.

I have found that keeping killies is one of the easiest fish to do... all you have to do is change water...normal Auckland tap water is fine... I don't even add anything anymore. Well happy fish keeping. Alan... Ready and Waiting for your visit. 253

  19. what I normally do with zucinni is that I will slice about an inch of zucini cut it in half then stick a weight through it along with the skin (you can use a spoon if you wish) so that the zucinni doesn't float to the top. give it a rinse and toss it in. I would also feed flake as well for the other fishies. Well that is what I do... but I use Cucumber instead as it is cheaper
  20. I've been to Vancouver, BC, Canada and found that it was like Auckland except that there are no eves over the side walk, so if it rained you got wet. I was told that Banff was very similar to queenstown... can't comment cause I ain't been to either  vancouver I found was rather ho hum imo
  21. I vac the gravel everytime I do a water change. only vac the top layer around the plants...do water changes at least twice a week... guppies leave a lot of poo about.

  23. you will probably create more problems trying to lower the pH than to keep it where it is. The discuss will be ok at that pH provided it does not change all the time.

    Prehaps killies??

Bluetom... if it is of any help... none of my 5 killie tanks are heated. I have them in my living room and all of the killies are doing well.... especially the aphy nigerium gold and the chocolate australes. and they are all in 1ft x 1/2ft x 1/2ft tanks.
  25. Penejane.... convincing your husband that you need a new BIGGER tank should not be a problem .... It is a matter of Supply and Demand.... when he Demands a bit on the side you withhold supply  ... eventually he will give in and you get your new BIG tank 8)
