  1. Pterygoplichthys & Pleco Types.. :nfs: Pleco have up to 9 rays in dorsal fish and sail fins have more than 9 and up to even 14... Pterygoplichthys i have on trade me as weberi are only smaller type known and at 3 years are just about 20 cm and also the rearest and only comes from the amazon river and collected very seldom by one dealer in Peru There is unlikely to be any others come to nz as know one is prepared to take the large losses in getting wild fish through Quarantine Phillip Collis
  2. sadly not in NZ though! Here's a can of worms for ya all..NOT TRUE. I as most know was spending heaps on Amazon Fish from Peru and N Z as well as members of this site were not prepared to pay a relistic price for them so i stopped importing... I see a lot like this about nz dont have decent fish and frankly..Well i think i will no go there... Also i spend hundreds for good dollars doing banner ads here and never saw much from members in actual sales.. This im hoping will get people to realise its not worth while to import special fish into N Z unless this so called hobby wakes up... Auctally...Those fish in vidoe's can grow to huge sizes and your tanks cannot hold them properly.... Most need tanks at least several meters and holding thousands of liters...
  3. Shame as i see it the fault is the parents were not true in the first place and remember imports are mostly not named true as erma made maf have 2 latin names for each type of fish..Those that have come in are here small as you cant tell alike...Also under false names and all mixed up while in quarantine......As cant keep seperate in small batches or would look strange. My views as i to have had many supplied and do not look anythink like photos of so call parents..IE red peacocks just common sunshine when adult..Just one type mentioned as i have had many like this so stopped buying them in............P
  4. spirulina Thats what you need at least 50% of food to keep near natural as possible..And then mixed flakes and small general pellets Spirulina ..In wild thats mostly what africians eat.. Metro can be obtained from a vet but it is just about imposible to be go into fish through being in the water.. Has to be included in to food...Like ox heart mix...Dry mix so eaten before breaks up Trade me should have spirulina pellets listed from symond blank ..Think that his name... Cheers Phill
  5. Use plain salt at level teaspoon to 4.5 L Forget the rest as i never use anything by salt..Just about all body problems are fixed and keep at this level..Half water change then half the salt again....Phill
  6. Hi In all of the pleco like fish the females are broader and males slender so you can pick from above..I have just put photos on some on trade me and venting is the same results as viewing from above....Phill
  7. David When you actually import fish and visit exporters you will then understand there is a lot more than you read in a few web sites.. I have seen fish in the wild in many area's I'll not respond any more on this site as always winds up like this
  8. This is been around the world as the biggest talk subject with the world of exporters for about 30 + years that i know of and story is that an importer had holding ponds and tanks near peru for fish from all over including Brazil ,Venezuela..Peru A super flood wash all in the the rivers of Peru including many angels and now it is believe thay they actually are the same angel breeding in black water instead of white as in venezuela.. Except for the bar missing to full develop thats known as the real difference and some from both lines have slightly turned up noses... All be happy that they are here as the losses inporting mean they are unlikely to be imported again.... Ps.. Two Pairs sold and i have keeped just one pair and there are no smaller here.... :nfs:
  9. David there are 2 as that name of of Brazil and Peru ..You only confuse people..Out of Brazil as i said have never got to nz...Completly different looking fish........Phill
  10. The other altum is from the other side of the of the móuntions so that why they dont get to market as no airlines to bring out wild caught..Video could just as well be wild caught and exported to any where,,,,Peru altums are very tough as i have never lost any young at all but not to easy to get to breed as need the amazon seasons...Listing pairs on t/me today and only have 3 pairs and all gone so if want to keep going then be in quick Cheers Phill
  11. Hi..They look like common by the photo,,Altuns are soptted on the top of the body,,Blacks again are wild strains so dont x with others....P
  12. Hi Im the original importer of them from the Amazon River via Peru.. These now are true F2 as second generation same as the black marble here. Few others have them as very young when sold but feel the they now have lost the wild strain I dont x breed them...$ 80 a pair i think is a fair price for fish that have been here over this time..These are just about 18 months old now...Phill
  13. Hi David As im starting a sell down and going to sell off all fish and then equipment later come and see me as i have 3 breeding pairs,Make me a cash offer for all as when selling it will be a complete line and have the black marbles and some are stunning. Cheers Phill Collis
  14. Come and see me as i have simular and different colours in wag tails.........Phill
  15. Hi That not good...Put parents in a net and hold at the top of tank..Very hard to stop fry getting past mesh..Once you see are autually wriggleing with air tube suck into a small jar of about 3 L and must be there own tank water...Float on top of the tank Hopeful you can find some where else to move them to after that...Feed liquid fry food till big enough to take hatched brine shimps......Phill
