off the coast of dubai they are building lots of man made islands in the form of the world. I think you can hire switzerland for under a mil and that includes food and accomodation for 900 people. Much cheaper than buying your own island :lol:

What about using silica sand? If you are prepared to drive north there is a very white sandy silica beach up north where ACI used to get the sand for their bottles. I think the beach is up around Monganui area.

You can get it from your local hardware store. I have seen the Selleys one for GLASS... it says on the back that it can be used for Aquariums.

I tried the lettuce leaf Idea... Didn't work at all :evil: found that it was eaten faster than the snails could crawl on it. Guess it doesn't help when you have 9 Bristlenoses and 2 clown loaches that like the lettuce leaf too. :roll:

Hope things go well Pies. I saw that it will be a big job. Have you considered putting the sump on a pallet and then using a forklift or pallet truck to move the sump into position? would make it a lot easier for everyone involved. I would help but unfortunately I'm up here in Akl... however I will be thinking of you guys

They show up time to time in the lfs. I have 2 in my pond and I think they are doing fine.

Ahhh what I would give up to have a self sustaining colony of mozzies for my fish tank. As the others have said the fish should of finished them off long ago. have you checked the back of your tank to see if there was a pool of water there that the mozzies are breeding in? :-?

with regards to getting a really fine net. What about making one using nylon material? I use it to get my Brineshrimp out. of course you will need make a big net and have something strong to lift it out of the water.

Oh... :oops: I don't get the consumber mag The one I saw was when the warehouse was selling the Wood's dehumidifier.... if I recall correctly it was NZ made.

Sorry Control... can't remember back 2 years ago. I know that the warehouse had a flier saying that it was recommended in the consumer magazine.

2 weeks then. should of been ok but it depends on how much you are feeding them as well. How big is the tank? (dimensions) where abouts are you? what type of filter are you using?

You should of changed the water instead of cleaning the filter... What type of filter do you have? when was the last time you changed the water? How much water was changed?

What a great Idea Pies. Now keep track of costs and post them on the forum so we can see how much it actually costs I guess there will be a anenome or two? :-? Now you can prove that it can be done on the 'cheap'? or best practice depending on how people see it.

Really depends on what quantities you are looking for Alan Chemist will cater for a few hundred mils and the chemical agents for at least a couple of litres. Try Orica for it if you want it in bulk
