  1. Chris is right fish don't choke they are enjoying the air bubbles. Nothing to worry about
  2. With regards to water changes I only change on a monthly basis. i can usually tell it needs changing cause my orandas have a lot of poo floating around the bottom and when i do change I change around 50%. Fish have no problems with this as I also use about 6 squirts of Aquaplus and 3 table spoons of Salt. Fish are very happy after their water change. Then again i do give them some blood worms as a treat. Once again trial by error. if fish seem to be healthy then why bother. especially if you have a big tank. 4ft+

    furry stuff

I agree with matthew that Flourish excel is the way to go. i was recommended by the people at Hollywood Fish Farm to use double the recommended dosage on the instructions. Problem I had was that it took 2 large bottles of Excel to get rid of the stuff and at $27 per bottle it was an expensive exercise but it was my last resort. I had tried previously of stripping out the whole tank and applying boiling water to kill the stuff and then have each individual piece of gravel and equipment sun dried. happy killing.
  6. what works for me is to wait for the neighbours cat to come over and feed it to him. quick and painless and the cat gets a feed too.

    MOVING HOUSE

I would say the best thing to do is to take everything out of the tank and transport the tank by itself (don't want it to crack do we?). Rocks can go into a bucket and the plants can be shared between the containers that you will be using to transport the fish. I find that using chilly bins work well for transporting fish and the plants will reduce the splashing around. Once again this is great for short distances ie around auckland. With regards to water I would only keep enough water to transport the fish in. Happy moving

    Fluval 303

303 are a good filter I have 203, 303, 403. all working well with not problems. just clean them out every 4 months. I have my 403 going for 8 months without a clean. good buy.
  9. Hoplo Catfish will survide quite well with comets. I have 2 in coldwater with no problems
  10. Tell your boss it is good feng shui. Goldfish or marine tank are to bring good fortune especially if you have gold coloured fish in them. Dragon fish is especially good at bringing luck (at the moment for the LFS as they cost around $3000) provided fish don't die you will have good luck
  11. Sorry Caryl about your problems I have to agree with Northland Chic in saying that Fluvals are great. I have the 203, 303 and 403 all of which are working fine. I have had the 403 working for the past 3 years without any problems. I clean it once every 6 months. as to fixes for your problem sorry can't help.
  12. I must admit that i only change the water in my tank when i see that the tails on my orandas begin to turn white. this is maybe 4-6 weeks. and when i do change i do about 75% This enables me to suck out all the crap in the pebbles. I will fill it up and add in 3 tsp of salt and 6 squirts of AquaPlus. fish seem to find this ok. then again i do have lots of plants
