Thanks Dave+Amy - sounds like a bigger tank's in order!! I'm happy to do 50% water changes; I'm used to doing 50% twice a day on my cory tank anyway!
  10. Do their fins look like finrot? That's how it sounds like your describing it. Maybe it's not related....? :-?
  11. I'm guessing all those measurements are in mm and are missing some 0's :-? 600mm x 400mm x 400mm?? Also, steer clear of things with rolly wheels unless you plan on replacing them with metal ones, they are not really up to taking the weight of a tank. Your tank would probably be pushing 170kg depending on the thickness of the glass and how much you put in it. A TV is more like 40kg, and the plastic wheels are not designed to take so much weight.
  12. No thanks, I'll leave that to you!!!!
  13. The overflow box has the end of the pipes under the water. The water goes over the grate, fills the container, then get sucked up. To break the water surface, put the filter outlet out of the water so it flows over the water surface, or add more bubblers in the water.
  14. I think you'd just get more and more air in the filter, then the impeller wouldn't have any water to push, and nothing would pump back to the tank..
  15. Won't the impeller stop working if there's air in the filter? They work because they're an airtight loop.
  16. I see...even when you change water, the syphon will stay going because the black bit is like a little container. I guess you'd usually change most of the water from the sump though, right? The you just have to do a quick gravel vac, and you're done:D
