  1. Sumps in general, or this particular gadget?
  2. Ohhhhhhhh! I get it! I thought this small box was instead of a sump. It seemed strange that the tiny box could work like a proper sump! Thanks
  3. Don't know what a rcd is ...a adapter broke apart in a multibox, and I tried to get it out (stupidly without turning off the power) and dropped it. My hand touched the metal bits as I was catching it and clamped round the multibox, and it zaped me and zaped me, then melted and started smoking Now I turn off things and unplug them when I'm planning on touching metal.
  4. But where does the water go? How does it get back into the tank? I have no idea....I also don't know how sumps work, so I'm probably going to need a step by step run through...
  5. tinytawnykitten can you please do the marine tank? Then I can come over and drool at it
  6. ...pretty :bounce: They're so shimmery
  7. Really? But it hurt so bad!! My finger is all burned, and it made me puke...I've only just started feeling better now! Maybe I'm just pathetic
  8. :-? I'm scared for you...I got electrocuted from the mains on Friday (apparently water and electricity don't mix) and it hurt so bad...if you don't know what you're doing, please get someone to check it who does know before you plug it in. :bounce:
  9. I prefer fish house! I must have misheard...
  10. Ohhhh....I never thought of them! Good thinking. Now, where can I get some?
  11. So maybe I should just go for the electric yellows? I could have maybe 8 - 10 in a 3ft right?
  12. Well I think I'm just going to see how the dad goes, last time I look out eggs and raised them, I got 300 bronze cory babies...(still trying to get rid of them!)
  13. I'm getting fed up with my huge male bristlenose...hes in a 3ft tank with 3 females, has lots of wood and caves and otherwise perfect conditions, but until now, no spawns or even hints of spawns. I went to bunnings yesterday, and saw a conjugate box (they use them on prefab buildings to do the wiring). It has one entrance, and approx an 8cm x 8cm x 4cm box at the end of the tube. It looked like a pretty good home for my boy. I got it home, washed it, and popped it into the tank. I didn't really have any hope of them doing anything, but thought that one more cave can only be good. Well, I got up this morning and saw the male with his tail hanging out of the cave. I could see one female, but not the other. I sat down and watched him, and he flailed around, then eventually, I saw the female emerge from the cave! She's been going in and out, and he's been following, and standing guard outside the cave. Sorry about the dodgy picture quality! I'm pretty sure this is going to be a spawn, now I just have to hope that he manages to look after the eggs and babies if/when they hatch!
  14. I'd like to get some blue dolphins (Cyrtocara moorii, Haplochromis moorii (?) from my web searches) and electric yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus). They would live in a 3ft tank. I know I can't get many, but I love the colour they are, and would like some bigger fish. My googles have said that they'll live ok together, but I wanted to ask you fish gods if they'll be ok together, what conditions they should be in, and how many I can keep in a 3ft. I'll be getting them as small babies (about 1-2cm), and can keep the brightest and the prettiest when they start to get bigger. I was thinking of a sand bottom and slate to make caves for the fishes - are they plant diggers? Would I be better off getting coral sand to keep the pH up, or putting a layer of crushed sand in the tank/filter? Thanks guys!
  15. What size tank are all the babies in? They look like they have heaps of room!
  16. Wow....so the fish in the auction could be any one of 3 different fish, all from different places but with the same common name in New Zealand? The fact that all 3 of those pics look the same to me tells me that I shouldn't be buying any of them!
