  1. David R, I agree that paying off student loans is low priority. Other things that do incur interest are are greater priority. I'm getting my living allowance and saving it. Every week I get $150 + interest, which will be a nice house deposit, business set up amount, holiday or fish buying fund. I can choose to pay it back as a lump sum. If I do that (my plan) then the few hundred I have earned in interest helps to pay my actual loan. It's completely legit, and while it is probably contributing to the rescission, I don't really care because I've saved enough to get through the rescission fine. It's something the government should have thought about before passing the law. While it's a pretty ruthless, capitalist approach to take, there's no reason why anyone else couldn't be doing the same and using their time and abilities to do the same thing.
  2. Guppies can have babies about once a month. Search the forums, other people have had a similar problem with an oily film on the water. Google blonde or gold guppies. That's probably what your pink ones are. They just have a yellowy body rather than grey. Next time, try to post all your q's in one post, people are more likely to answer.
  3. Lol, maybe I need to get a puppy
  4. Can you hold the frogs? I know this seems like a dumb question, but I wanna hold them and pet them.
  5. BBG usually lay eggs on the top of small caves. Did one of them turn really light coloured? The male's stripes usually go pretty much white when they're mating. They have been bred in aquariums before, but not reliably. EDIT: Does sound like a boy and girl to me. The boy (smaller) should change colour when breeding (based on my experience and everything I've read)
  6. tinytawnykitten, I know what you mean. I go to uni full time, work and own my own business. My partner and I were going to buy a house next year (we're both 19), but instead have chosen to put the money into the business. We've chosen to live spending less so we can have more money later. We will probably rent for the next 5 yrs because it will increase our earning potential. However, lots of our friends are getting their student loan living costs (that they have to pay back) and using it to buy flashy things. They don't have as much money as we do (because we work 18hr days and save our money), but they're the first to go out there and buy $800 designer sunglasses on credit. It's easy to be jealous of these people, but you have to remember that they're living in debt, and are living way outside their means. I assume you'd find that's the deal with your friends also - they have big mortgages, huge credit debt, and probably buy things on HP as well. Outwardly, they live a flashy life, but in reality, they probably are in debt for most of the house, the cars and all of their other things too.
  7. I agree, make sure you wash it again. If you don't and something happens, you'll regret it!

Yeah, it is a help site, and part of that is encouraging responsible fishkeeping. You have cross breed offspring, now you can learn from this, and do the right thing and ensure that it doesn't happen again.
  9. I agree with Mark, looks like whitespot. What are they?
  10. Hey everyone, I'm looking for a 1-3 bedroom house pref with garage from Dec/Jan/Feb for a year (longer term would be even better!). Unfurnished is fine. We're looking at paying up to about $300/week, and obviously, I'd need to bring my fish (I am housetrained, don't flood the place, and will commercial clean when I leave if that's what's required) Stand alone places would be preferred (we're not party people, and don't want to be adjoined to someone who parties all night or has screaming kids in the middle of the night), and we don't want to join an existing flat. Thanks!

1 baby fish might be ok for a few hours...
  12. It's pretty hard to underfeed fish - your instinct is to feed them way too much than they need. You wouldn't do them any harm to not feed them for a day once a week. (Babies are different though, small stomachs so they need feeding little and often)
  13. Lol, feeding frenzy, I know what you mean. It's an unusual christmas in my family if the police aren't called or someone doesn't go to the hospital. There is often knife throwing involved. Good times.
  14. I would have been fine this xmas, but I decided to do summer school at uni to take 6 months off my degree and then bought a new bike today. It's really cool though, so that makes me feel better!
  15. florite will be fine when boiled. Have fun - I hate washing gravel!!
  16. What? How did you 'run out'??? I need to hear this story
  17. Depends really on the conditions they were stored in, and what they were like before they were stored (condition/age). If they got really hot or were in direct sunlight, they'd be more likely to be dodgy. Keep in mind though that silicone lasts about 10yrs easy. If they were already 10yrs old when they were stored, they'd be more likely to leak. If they were new, that's a different story. They're pretty easy to re-silicone though if you wanted to try that route.
  18. I meant like what do they eat, and stuff. I call my bristlenoses and chocolate zebs different cuz I have to feed them different things.

...but....that's not nice! The fish in the pic look like barbs or something.
  20. Man, this just makes me laugh. :bounce: I have a 3ft tank, it started off with 3 fish. I now have about 400 in there, and I've sold them all down to about 20 fish like 5 times. Don't stress, you'll soon have HEAPS of babies. :bounce:
