    Fungus HELP!!!

You need to figure out what caused the fungus. Could be a wound or bacterial infection. If bacterial, treat with an antibiotic to fix the infection, and an antifungal to treat the fungus. If it's a wound, I'd say salt, and antifungal.

    New Tank

Wow, what a fantastic looking tank. I read through all the posts but might have missed it - do you still have the rams in there?
  3. http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/490bd912000efc0e273fc0a87f3b067a/Product/View/Z3980 All LEDs are really low watt. Sometimes they have them on TM too
  4. wow, I'd love a goldnugget. post pics when you get it!
  5. What happened to the post about 20/20??
  6. Man, they're really cute! How old are the fry that are coloured? How big are they?
  7. Eheims are really really really quite. They're pretty expensive, but imo, worth it because you just don't hear them.

    Discus

Seen some beauties on TM from a respected breeder here in Wellington, and I would love to get some. They're 5cm at the moment. I have a standard bb 3' I could grow them out in - this is enough space for 6 of them, right? I'd then like to keep them in my AR620 (approx 90l) when they're grown - would 2 be ok in that space or would they need more? How long does it take (both size and time to grow) until they are grown enough to pair? I'd like to move a pair into the AR620. Also, other than frequent water changes, good nutrition and space, what can I do to ensure that they grow without deformities? If I breed the babies (all from the same spawn) am I likely to get more deformities because they are related?
  9. Wow, exciting! Can you get some pics? There's nothing more exciting than pics of baby fish and eggs!

    Blue Rams

They're available quite often at all the usual stores. I think there's a few people who've managed to breed them up there too... Have you asked your lfs if they can get them in?

  13. Ahhh!!! They are SO cute!!!!!!!! I want one!!!
  14. Brookey25, I've been reading your posts about your goldfish with interest, and I just want to say a big thank you for caring so much about these little guys. You've gone above and beyond to save them and make sure they're happy and healthy, so good on you!
  15. I run Eheims, and they're great. I've got 7 2213's and some 2215's. Maybe you would be better getting 2 2215's - they'd be fine on a 500L tank. You can get them at the yellow shed for 1/2 price every month or two (the mark up makes me sick! ) You can get them at about $150 - $170 ea on special, so that's still cheaper than the FX5.
  16. It will go bad in 2 - 3 days. It's pretty easy to get her to put a set amount in (1/8th tsp?) in a set amount of water, leave it for 5 min then pour it in the tank isn't it?
  17. I think 40L is way too small. I was considering getting 2, in a 100l tank but decided 100L was too small for 2. They will eat the corys and are likely to have a good go at the others too. They need something like snails to help grind their teeth down, they continue to grow as they get older and need to be crunched down by eating tough stuff.
  18. Wow, that second one is stunning! Why would you prefer an albino? The red eyes creep me out...
  19. Sailor Moon was awesome. So was Captain Planet and Digimon. I named my cat after a digimon...
  20. Sure. It doesn't mean you necessarily know what you're doing or that you'll be successful, or recognised by other breeders, but using a general definition of breeding, you would be.
  21. 'Breeding' in fishkeeping is doing some sort of specific and selective process to encourage reproduction. Having a tank full of boy and girl guppies doesn't make you a breeder, but selectively choosing what fish you are going to be breeding and choosing specific traits to breed makes you a breeder.
  22. Like with any substrate, it needs to be rinsed throughly. If using second hand, you might want to boil it.

    Fishroom Temp

Glad to hear you've sorted it out. Do you have lids on your tanks? Is the room really humid (silly question I know!)
