  1. I've got one of the first mindstorm robot things - it's ultra cool, and awesome what you can program them to do!
  2. So are the guppies in the same place or nearby? I think we could make a really awesome trip out of this!
  3. Sorry, you're right, I meant to say top speed not cruising speed. Although cruising speed is relevant too - at your ideal cruising speed, your car is most economical, quietist and smoothest. My statements are based on the fact that the average New Zealand driver is terribly uneconomical, has no idea how a good car is driven, and has marginal - at best - driving skills. You obviously care about driving, and the performance of your cars, and you're a bit pedantic, so I can make an educated guess that you're probably a better than average driver (even if you are a Honda fan ). However, you have to agree that the way the average driver drives, there's no way they would notice the difference between 91 and 98 octane fuel - they probably have 3 soft tires, unaligned wheels and completely screwed gears, and drive only in straight lines, even around corners. They also probably haven't driven a car at top performance, so have nothing to compare their car to.
  4. I'd try google and wiki first...then the saltwater part of the forum.

    can you breed..

Well put firenzenz - my thoughts exactly.
  6. Lower tuned - speced for lower high performance (gear ratios, top speed ect). Of course a car isn't going to perform as well on lower octane fuel. The whole point of high octane fuel is that it doesn't ignite at low compressions, so you can get a better performance out of the car. However, the average person who isn't pushing their car is not going to notice a big difference driving normally, and certainly isn't going to damage their car. Top speed is relevant because it helps to demonstrate the specs of the car - and how the average driver is not going to get close to the limits of the car where the difference between 91 and 98 is going to be noticed.
  7. In Japan, they also run ethanol blended high octane petrol, so in reality, the octane doesn't matter too much. The real difference between 91 and 104 or whatever in between is the price, and the smoothness of the car when you're driving. You're not going to do any damage using a lower octane fuel - remember, most Jap cars have "ideal" cruising speeds if 150+km/h which we don't do, and an "ideal" situation is the car running at certain outside temperatures etc. High performance cars have higher compression (so they have high HP), and require higher octane fuel. However, a 1999 ANYTHING isn't so high performance that it requires a high octane fuel in order to get good performance - unless you are racing the car or intend on keeping the engine in perfect condition as a classic one day, you're wasting your money buying 98 octane when 91 or 95 will do perfectly fine and will not damage the engine at all. The 1999-2001 S15 have a lower tuned ecu, so are designed to have a lower octane fuel.
  8. 91 will be fine for it, but ultra or something will help it to run smoother and more consistently. Don't use ethanol blended, sometimes it can condense and let water into the fuel.
  9. They get it when they have digestive problems. There's nothing I've ever been able to do, and I've had a few get it. If they eat something bad, or don't have enough wood in their diet it occurs. Honestly I think the best thing you can do for it is to euthanise it. Thats probably not what you want to hear, sorry
  10. There are guppies? I'd be keen to go for the guppies!!

    can you breed..

fuglydragon, don't you think that leaving pure line breeding up to zoos etc is short sighted? If many other hobbies (horses, cats, dogs etc) can do it, why should fish hobbiests not even try to preserve good specimins for the future? Granted, lots of people don't know what they're doing. That's where a site like this fits in; people can learn about what they're doing and (hopefully) make more informed decisions about what they're breeding.
  12. I guess I'd dread an English exam if I wrote like that too
  13. I will on flying on the 13dec and would be happy to help as long as I get to pet the puppy and give it kisses.
  14. Whats a great NZ Mollie hunt? Is it what it sounds like? Are you hunting in peoples fish tanks?

    This or that

    beach shoes or jandals?
  16. If the mother has stopped feeding, it's probably because she's getting hassled by not having a private space for her and the pups, or because the pups are being handled too much too young. You can get them feeding off mum again, but it's a lot of work, and if you don't think the neighbors committed, then there's no reason why you couldn't take it now. It sounds like you'd take better care of them than they would anyway, so you could just bottle feed it until it can eat solid foods.

    can you breed..

I guess an aspect that I don't like is that you don't know what the offspring of the hybrids will look like. I bought 6 GBA from a breeder when they were really small, and they looked perfect. I was hoping to breed them to get pure GBA babies. As they're growing, 3 of them have dark pigmentation spots on their tails - so I now know that they're hybrids, or their parents are. Now if I breed them, what do I sell the offspring as? They could be just like mine were, and look good as babies, but then grow up with stupid spots. I think hybridasation in itself is fine - you're right, it helps to extend the GP and can result in stronger stock. However, I think it should be done responsibly, and the offspring should be sold as hybrids so people know what they're buying.
  18. This sounds like a combination of an uncycled tank and stressed fish. You brought the fish home from the LPS, which stressed them, then put them into a tank. A few hours later as they started pooping, the ammonia levels began to rise, stressing them more, and oops they died. Cycle the tank, then try again. I hope you're ready for lots of babies!
  19. I mean that some classes aren't designed to be done together, so you have timetable clashes, and some papers are only done in 1 half of the year, so to do both, you could have to wait until the next year. Also, because lots of courses have prerequsites, you have to do the 100 level before the 200 etc. You could find that you're lucky and have no clashes at all. NCEA is better suited to girls was of learning than boys. Kinda sexist, but maybe boys should catch up .

    can you breed..

They are different variances of the same species, so yes you can, but it weakens the stock of both common and golden varieties, so most serious fish keepers would much prefer you didn't.

    mirror tint

Mine's in direct sunlight and I don't get algae, but I think you're right. But then, if you're using the mirror to reflect light inside the tank, wont it also mean that you have more light inside the tank than before? If you have enough light to grow algae, you can grow plants. I think it's just important to get the balance.

...Do you want to reduce UV from sunlight??? I thought it was good...
  23. I run 3 big eheim ones in my lounge, and they're way quieter than the filters. They're a bit more expensive, but IMO, totally worth it because they're so quiet.

    mirror tint

Is yours mirrored, or is that just what the glass does? I've never noticed it in mine, but they're usually really full and I look at the fish I'm just thinking that some breeders might not be happy because they see their reflection in the glass, so may constantly think that there's someone trying to eat their babies...
  25. What's making its scales fall off? It could be a fungal/bacterial thing, in which case, that needs to be treated too. In saying that, I think the salt, if anything, is going to help rather than make things worse.
