  1. I've found the spirulina tabs can only be in the water for 12 hrs or so, then they start going bad. If Mr GBA ate some after it had gone bad, it could have caused the problems. I doubt it was the beef heart, they probably wouldn't have got much after the discus got it!
  2. I've just put 1 tab in and let it drop to the bottom for my bottom feeders. I put 1 in my guppy tank which has heaps of corys in it, and that tank went cloudy too.
  3. tukituki, if you'd like a microworm starter culture, PM me and I'll send you one.
  4. Aw!! cute! In another 2 weeks or so they'll get their colour, and stop being spotty and start being bronze! How many have you got to survive?
  5. Yeah, sounds like digestive problems. What do you feed them usually?
  6. Where do you get a baby magpie? Steal it from the nest??
  7. You can tell guppies are going to drop when their bellies start looking 'square'. If you want the babies to survive, separate them from the big ones in a breeding net or another tank, or make sure you have lots of plants like java moss in your tank they can hide in. Not sure about plattys sorry.
  8. Good to hear he's looking better!
  9. This might be obvious but does it have an air bubble in it?
  10. Wherever the red bit highlights is the temp it will heat to - so if 26 is red and 28 is white, it will heat to 26deg. They're not totally accurate though, so it seems to be doing it's job. It's better to be going off and on than not turning off! If you go into the technical section, there are lots of posts about how much power they use.
  11. Aw I wish there was a reliable way to treat it.
  12. if it's turning off and on, it's getting up to temperature. Make sure you've got lids on and it will retain it's heat. It also helps to keep the rooms warm. Do you have thermometers?
  13. Actually, that could work. I've successfully done something similar - put it into a breeding net with nowhere to hide, and cooled the water down. It did a big poop and was fine.
  14. Basically, you want to cycle a tank to get the biological filtration started. Fish poop and other wastes in the tank turn into ammonia, which turns into nitrite, which turns into nitrate. Ammonia and nitrite is toxic to fish, and even low levels can kill them. Nitrate is also toxic, but slightly higher levels can be tolerated. Before putting fish in your tank, you want to get the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels to 0. There are two man ways of cycling a tank, a fish cycle, where the ammonia comes from a fish, and a fishless cycle, where ammonia is added to get it kickstarted. Very basically, you add a couple of hardy fish (in 50l, I'd add 1 guppy), to get the ammonia cycle started on the tank. When your levels are reading 0, you can slowly add more fish. I suggest you google 'cycling a tropical fish tank' both on this site and on normal google to find more information. What you did for 3 weeks was a fishless cycle - not sure if you added ammonia or not?
  15. Sometimes they do explode. It's up to you whether you want to euthanize him. Personally, I wouldn't - sometimes they can recover.

    HELP!

I'd do a few more big cold water changes. Sometimes it takes a few times before they get to it.
  17. I doubt its the consistency of the food, more likely some was sitting on the bottom for a few days and went bad, then was eaten.
  18. It depends how many litres your tank is. I'd want at least 100W heater on a 2 ft tank. It's better to have 2 lower capacity heaters than one big one, that way if one breaks your tanks doesn't get too cold. Have you cycled your tanks? If not, you might find all your fish die.
  19. yeah, but it's so expensive and I'm not sure you can use 3g, so you can't use the Internet. I'm on a $40/m plan but it doesn't come with many texts or minutes. The datas pretty good though. It's an awesome peice of technology though, and when you make use of the apps, it's really capable of doing so much!!
  20. The desk one was stupid. Besides, goldfish are so messy, the water would be gross in a few days.
  21. Olly, do you already have a magpie, or is your next step to go and catch one?
  22. There's a whole section - members tanks. I don't understand why this is a thread....? It pays to check out the whole forum, and to use the search. That way we don't get 17 different 'where can I post my question about...' threads.
  23. Well, I hope he pulls through for you. When mine have done this, I put them into a breeding box so I can monitor them without tearing the tank apart. Good luck!
  24. Bristlenoses get digestive problems quite easily - usually from eating bad food. You can try feeding him peas, but he probably wont eat. Sorry to say, but they usually die from this.
  25. Did those eggs hatch?
