  1. ok, so my partner and I are having our wedding soon and are trying to think of some nice songs to play as people are waiting for the wedding to start / something to play during the wedding. We have a few songs in mind but thought to ask what other people like
  2. Hmm, need more ppl in the chat rooms me thinks
  3. Keep the pic's coming livingart. I use to have a model railway set up but not any more... (well a part from a N scale one in bits in a box ) Can't wait to see the finished job
  4. Well after reading up and google'n for other info I might just stick to keeping the plants in sand or gravel. One thing I was wondering about it is I've heard a few people talk about Dalton's aquatic mix, is that able to be added straight to a tank or do you need to treat it the same as other soils?

    diy co2 mix?

Cool, I might try a bit more yeast next time then to see how much it helps. Keen to here a bit more about adding salt as well
  6. I've always used just a standard mix of yeast and sugar in a 2.25L coke bottle but was wondering what mix's people are using or if any one has found anything extra to add to help make it work better Just keen to see how different some of the ways out there are, plus keen to try something different
  7. depends on what kind of surfing you want to do - for the faster / more darting around the wave go for a short board (about 5 - 6 foot area). or if your more like me and just like cruising it and riding smaller waves, get a mel (8 - 9 foot area) Mel's (long boards) are easier to learn on and ride smaller waves with ease, but with short boards you can have a lot more fun doing the fancy stuff... Its all about what you prefer as your style. Go into a local surf shop and see if they have any one that takes groups or people out to try the sport, that way you can find out how much time and money you want to put into it... surfing can cost a bit once you get into it Hope this helps, have fun
  8. Yay, this is the second time my kribs have had fry, but the first time i've had them more than 24 hours after finding them (mom and dad hide them well in the tank from all the other fish). After finding them last night I got them out of the tank and put them in a breeding trap in the tank. Will be setting up a tank just for them over the next few days I hope. With any luck I'll have more kribs on the way as the other pair in the tank are getting really protective of there cave now
  9. I've never found HP to be 'stingey'. I've had some great deals from them, and at times where a fish wasn't working out in one of my tanks i've given it to HP, and sometimes at my loss. Look at it from there view, If they refunded every fish that came back dead they wouldn't last long as there are a few people out there that just don't know a thing about fish. Now by no means am I saying any one here doesn't know any thing about fish, but out there in the world there is a few.
  10. To each own fish. The first 2 I ever owned killed any small fish in the same tank. But the 3 i have now, (and 2 of them are a pair) don't do much unless the pair tries to spawn - then they do pick on other fish of any size (mostly the male fighter). Get them small and in even numbers and they might be ok. But as I said, each to there own

    diy co2

For a cheep bottle, I've been told get a used co2 fire extinguisher (a steel one last longer) and get it re checked and a new valve and fitting put on to it. When I looked into it last, cost about $130 - 140 for fitting/valve and bottle check. About $35 per refill. Better than $400 - 600 for a new bottle, and better than hiring a bottle off boc at $144 per year Bottle checks last for 5 year before having to get re checked and serviced Hope all this helps
  13. I hope your new found friend does well. keep us updated on it progress
  14. Hut pets in lower hutt normally have them
  15. wow, i'll glad i asked about this one... will do a lot more looking into this though as i really want to try a few things
  16. Skunk loaches are grate vs snails, but might be a problem as they out grow your smaller fish. I had no problems with my ones when I had them, but have heard they can be a little nippy when fully growen
  17. Now i'm looking at putting a tray with top soil in it, in one of my tanks to grow plants in it. Can any one recommend what to, and not to use? have a few fish in there that I don't want to lose Thanks

  21. I do a lot of diving so I know where not to go, and as for poisionous stuff I had safety gloves on just in case while handling these anemones (plus tools to lower handing, and care was taken to avoid damage to them)
  22. 3 Candy Striped Anemones (you know much about these guys?) Nope They also need feeding too, hope ya looked into that? (of course ya did! lol!) I little but I don't have anything on after work tomorrow so lots of time to get things done Was the tank cycled etc for them beforehand? (Im guessing so as ya went to get the shrimp?) Yea, had it setup before I left to go out for a drive and to colect the shrimp And the sand - did you get it from the rockpools? yep Wat temp was the rockpools at? completely forgot to check
  23. The flat is only 15 min away from good saltwater so 50% water change tomorrow (plus have 5 liters spare from today). I did a bit of looking into what i need. My chiller / filter i will make tomorrow (hoping I have the time). Got them near titahi bay, no idea of area name sorry. all ready have plan's of a bigger tank... this one was just setup as a shrimp holding tank to start with and new filter with power head added now. Now i just need to get / build a stand and clean out an old 200 liter tank thats sitting in my dads shed
