  1. Cool, thanks for that info. I'm now thinking of getting a 400 liter tank which will be good for them for a few years until I upgrade. But need to finish current tank i'm working on before I do anything on this (yay saltwater project all most done)
  2. My girl friend and I are thinking on getting a Oscar each but only know little about them. I know they need a very big tank and if it fits in there mouth they will eat it (other fish). If anyone has any info they could share, or links for info on Oscar's, and how to take good care of there needs that would be great
  3. at the moment I have 4 in a 20 liter tank, 3 of them are 2cm long and the other 4cm so was thinking of fish (or tadpole) of round about the same size... if any problems start then i'll give the fish a new tank to live in. Still doing research on 'do frogs eat the crays or other way round, or not at all' but if any one knows any thing about that any info would be great
  4. thanks for that guys. I'll be keeping them in there own tank now... but I'll try and catch some small fresh water fish from the river to put in the tank just to make it a bit more entertaining
  5. I came across some freshwater crayfish the other day, can these be slowly brought up to live in a tropical tank or they only like cold water? and would they not bother the fish? Or if any one has any other info on them that would also be great

    Crayfish

ah ok, oh well I'll just wait till my uncle goes diving next and I'll get a cray off him. I'll just have to put the shellfish I was going to keep in the sump tank so the cray doesn't have an all you can eat dinner while i'm not looking. Thanks for the pic Oceandose, gluing the rocks together... now why didn't I think of that lol

    Crayfish

I all ready have (for the most part) the gear for the saltwater tank. Where abouts is 'Jansens' puttputt? (or is that some one on this forum?) cause if i can get a smaller cray or 2 that would be much easier to keep than an adult cray

    Crayfish

yea I would make sure the cray is legal since my cuz works for MAF and wants to have a look at my tanks  plus the same uncle also offered me a 500 liter tank so i hope that is big enough... if not no cray

    Crayfish

I told my uncle the other day i'm slowly building a saltwater tank bit by bit, he's offering to get me a crayfish for my tank on one of his diving trips if I want one... I think it would be awesome to have one in my tank but no idea if there is anything that you have to do while keeping them (e.g. the right food / water condition...) Any one ever kept one or know of any one that has? :bounce:
  10. Loved those photos thanks for posting them ryanjury

    Hi Everyone :)

    Hello and welcome Jaide
  12. Welcome to the forums Mo
  13. oh ok, cool. heater is now in the 'to be use for trop tank box' now thanks for that info. Any other ideas or suggestions for gear needed? or has any one done something that worked really good for there tank (like what mix of fish and other thing) that made the tank stand out or look really awesome?
  14. yes I know this, but from what i've been told the sea doesn't change temp a lot in its area, I could be wrong in what i've heard but that was my understanding of it, plus for the fact if the water is at a temp they prefer won't they be more lively than in a tank thats like a fridge in winter?
  15. The skimmer is a ViaAqua sk-200. I thought a heater would be needed for the winter months as I was told by some one who keeps NZ saltwater fish that the temp needs to be at 14 - 16C and the place i'm at gets to 6 - 8C at night easy... thoughts?
  16. After doing lots of research on saltwater tanks i'm starting to get the gear (or make the gear) I need. Will post pic's of this project once I start putting it together which might be a bit away as have to sort a few things out first. Oh, its a New Zealand waters fishtank So far the gear I have: 1000mm x 500mm x 500mm tank Jebo 819 external filter (1200Lph) Skimmer, made for up to 100 Gallon tank (forgot brand name but new) 300W Heater (for winter) and a few other little bits and bobs for the tank Need to finish making, or still to build: Chiller (waiting on funds for parts, might even use computer to control it) Sump tank (need sheet of glass to fix an old tank) To buy: 2x 1200Lph (or near abouts) water pump Plumbing fittings Pipes, hoses, tubes (what ever you would like to call them) 20 liter bucket with lid (will probably get this weekend) And the temp control bits for the chiller i'm making Looking forward to getting this finished and fish in it 8)
  17. Welcome. Good to see some one else that enjoys frogs
  18. Yea I'm hoping to have a new tank in the next 3 - 4 months, just have a few big bills at the moment or I would have had one made now, plus I still need to find a new place before I get a bigger tank, just can't get a big tank into my place being an apartment with a funny stair way :-?
  19. Well the Golden barbs are still doing good and the Angels only care about what time I put food in the tank. I do like the idea of adding corys to my tank Cam, but just don't have the money right now to get 6 - 8 of them. I'm thinking of one or two GBA's to finish the tank off (well until I get a new place and get another big tank)
  20. Thanks for all this info guys, the Red tail and the golden algae eater haven't even looked at each other, red is about 5cm long and the golden is about 6 - 7 cm long, the 3 angels just do there own thing off to one side of the tank and there about med size. After more research I went against the idea of the blue ram cause of the size of the tank. And after some advice I got a small school of golden barbs which so far are fitting in ok but I am keeping a close eye on the tank
  21. At the moment in one of my tanks I have 3 Angels, 3 Kuhli's, 4 Krib's, 1 golden algae eater, 1 red tail shark. Its a 90 liter tank with lots of plants and hiding places. Now i'm thinking of adding 2 blue rams, is this ok or a bad idea for this type of cichlid with the fish I all ready have? If so any ideas on wat will be good to add to finish this tank?
