  1. Oh man the last thing I have time for any way to discourage pairing??
  2. any success Diver?? Might give my cardinals a go when I give my glowlights a go, sizing up some tanks and equipment at the moment. Waiting for the mother to relax a bit before I add anymore tanks lol
  3. But all these fish have been together since october last year - no problems until now, would've thought they would've clashed earlier on? Thinking about downsizing to just the 4 larger Discus (getting rid of the smaller 4 ) and maybe adding two more adult Discus?
  4. why stay to Chch breeders? if you want a few it's worth the shipping..more variety up this side of NZ
  5. haven't found the bike but the bike is about 10yrs old now so it wouldn't be worth $2000? Dave told his dad and we're now saving up to buy him a new bike..and also contemplating about installing some security cams around the driveway and house
  6. man they're ALL going to cost a bit to feed lol
  7. Ryan - I have four big and four small (one seems to be a loner and doesn't associate with the rest), tank is 1.5m X 0.7m X 0.6m. Phoenix - I might consider downsizing (if Dave's sis doesn't end up wanting hers then you can have them) Ron - I thought it might be a pair but I've checked multiple times and no eggs or wrigglers, but I really don't think a mix between an Electric Dream and a Blue Diamond would look good anyway? I thought maybe they had worms so I poured some Prazi into the tank after the waterchange and now no one's happy. And no one's poo'd out any worms - so I know it's not internal parasites
  8. what breed are those lil bundles of skin?
  9. It wasn't until recently (last month or so) that all my 4 larger Discus have started playing up and fighting over a corner covered in Indian Fern. Both my Electric Dream and my Blue Diamond are adamant in chasing every other Discus away from it to a point where only one of them would feed/come out at a time and what makes it worse is that they're not eating as much as they should because they're so infatuated with keeping others away. Them picking on my other larger Discus has also caused the larger ones to take up positions throughout the tank which means the smaller ones (3) are constantly being picked on by the others and also not getting to the food Have no idea what's happening but everyone's crabby and not getting enough food
  10. he didn't do much damage but it kept me screaming until Dave pased me a net, I figured as long as he couldn't get any bit of my flesh in his mouth I'll be safe. Everytime I use green water the green clears up and I don't even do a water change, how do people keep it green? Had a jail break and one larger juvie got munched when it found its way into its parents compartment so now only 11 remains :-? I thought it looked too big to fit into the adult Ram mouths but somehow they managed to eat it
  11. Well mine breed basically WEEKLY - I don't know how to slow it down b'cos of lack of time and tank space I feed mine NLS Discus Granules so maybe it's conditioning her faster than usual? I followed Ron's (Discus Guru) advice and the male makes a better carer but I find his fanning inadequate (only 8 wrigglers surviving), today when I removed their new spawning the male tried to attack my hand so I had to have him netted while I stole the egg covered pot  updated photo - 12 remaining Ram Juvies (from oldest batch)
  12. And I'm finding my Ram fry like to commit suicide everytime I do a small waterchange by throwing themselves on the floating net sides (and there they stay stuck) I've lost 3 of my larger juvies. Cam - I find that my female is the more dominant one, if I don't put her in the next compartment after spawning then she chases the male away and gobbles up the eggs, but once I put her in the next compartment he goes straight to the eggs and starts fanning them. Does anyone else use green water from goldfish ponds etc for raising fry?

    Blue rams

hope you get to grow out some fry! I'll be keen to do a fry swap
  14. cool thanks for that Ryan I'm still not having success in raising fry though - only around 20 survivors at a time, I ran out of room for the last spawning so I left the eggs to the parents and the Dad took care of the eggs, only 8 wrigglers on the pot the other eggs didn't get enough water circulation I'm guessing. At what age should I remove the Dad?
  15. it has never occurred to me to use saltwater  I work directly across the road from the beach so it would be easy enough, I am worried about bacteria levels in the harbour though...? Would that be harmful for fry?
  16. where do you buy peat from? do we use peat to lower the pH?
  17. I have 4 plump girls and 1 surviving boy, do you only need one pair for breeding?? What about light? Do they need darkness for the eggs to survive and hatch?

    Blue rams

Oh man if ONLY I didn't lose all my life savings at the Wellington Cup races then I would've gone for a few more Rams lol
  19. I wondered why all I was getting was fluffy peach sludge  anyway I've got enough decap from Johannes and Stu to last a life time so I'll just use that until I get the brineshrimps hatching lol
  20.  forgot to add salt.....the most obvious factor missing

I can't tell you to hold them for me yet since I don't even know when I'll be able to get a day off work, how often do you get them in?
