  1. I put her in first yesterday but removed her into the nest compartment overnight due to him being too rough, this is the second day and he's settled a bit. I accidently ruined half his bubblenest today from doing waterchange. Cam - what do you feed yours when you're breeding them?
  2. I had her in the next compartment and she was flaring etc at him and I think she's about to pop from how fat she looks. He's stopped beating her but they're not mating either. Cam - the boy is one I got from you, the girl I got from Blue+Kim She's presented herself to him once but he doesn't know what to do, just started flaring up next to her.
  3. giving my fighters a go, the females (are both gravid) and the male has already built a bubblenest under a piece of poly and water sprite. The problem being the females don't seem keen, I've removed her several times 'cos he was getting too rough and have added bloodworms after hearing it puts the fighters into the mood. Still no mating... A pic of the the male watching the female in the next compartment: Male under his bubblenest: Bubblenest on its own:
  4. Yes I'll well aware of that...been to a funeral with Rammstein playing and a widescreen of car drags showing with a whole lot of Highway 61 gang members.....definately felt out of place, was the only person without a visible tatt
  5. SAEs are silver with a black line strait through the middle of the fish all the way through the tail..they're often sold as 'flying foxes'
  6. the only problem with Rammstein is that German speaking part

where in the CBD are you? Dave goes into town for gym on most days if you need someone to feed your fish we might be able to help and if you tell us your specifications on cleaning then I could do it easily?
  10. awesome vid - good luck with yours! Mine have had their home taken over by the Blue Rams since I replanted the whole tank so they're homeless at the moment. I'll have my breeding tank up and running this week so hoping both the couples can hold on from spawning for a few days
  11. Good stuff! Wish Dave knew how to build things  Can't wait to see a pic of it with Discus!
  12. if those eggs did belong to my glowlights - how long would they take to spawn again?
  13. after reading that article - mine aren't shoaling just vibrating in pairs, am thinking about adding another 5 or 6 to boost numbers as snails are rapidly increasing again (must be a summer thing) since I can't afford another 10 anytime soon due to my new pair of Dolce+Gabbana sunnies I have a massive bush of Indian Fern and a corner full or Xmas moss so that should provide good cover? Definately be keeping my eyes on them lot
  14. what kind (colour, size) of eggs do they lay? but don't they need a lot of excess hormones to get them to breed?
  15. I've read it's impossible to breed this in captivity unless I had kg's of hormones to add to my tank, but I have noticed out of my 10: 6 of them are looking very round in comparison to the other 4, like almost double and fat even upto the tail. Is this an indication that they're females? Another thing, I've seen them often side by side (2 at a time) just shimmying - leaning against each other and almost vibrating. Is this mating behaviour??
  16. if you get it canopying in your nano your fighter might be able to build nests under it...get your boys breeding
  17. sweet as I just got some large tiger lotus from evil_elmo - loving it! where are you flatting? in town? I'm overdue for a visit to Palmy I think
  18. Daves dad will head upto Palmy in Jan - will that suit for your indian ferns and water sprite?
  19. well if you make a big enough sump you can filter other tanks as well just join them together with plumbing?? Haha my (Amy) mum thinks my Discus tank doesn't need heating in the summer...I tell her the two 300W heaters aren't on
  20. finally got the close focus function on the camera to work:
  21. cool thanks for that Cam..now I know for sure that I have a pair
  22. Also supplement their diet with home-made beef heart mixtures alongside Discus granules. Amy puts raw prawns, shrimp, flake, chopped up garlic and Beef heart into her blender and blend till fine then freeze.
  23. Think you need to do at least 40% waterchanges per day - Discus release pheromones to suppress each other's growth hence you'd want to do consistant waterchanges. Overseas people do upto 75% waterchanges, you should take advantage of NZ's clean water to make the most of your Discus' growth. You should have these in a bare bottom tank while this young so you'll be sure they're getting all the food you're feeding.
  24. ...could be jammed up against glass by plants I guess?
