  1. well it's definately a hard lesson learnt for Allysia but despite everything she's caught the bug of getting more tanks
  2. woah guys keep it toned down, Lmsmith only wanted advice like most people that's new to something so there's no need to get up on your high horse about. Smeauwa - you may be new to the forum but people don't get condescending over others, not only can you get banned but no one will take you seriously or even help you out when you need help.
  3. it's a recession even Santa's suffering, he's cutting back on himself to buy us all presents for Xmas
  4. hahaha that's so cute! Did you get that photo with Santa from Animates?
  5. Did you lose 100's of juvies or adults Bilbo?? I made the mistake of putting the pair back into the community tank to clean out their compartment properly and soon enough the male from the pair and another male were flashing and locking mouths in combat over the female from the pair. Don't understand why none of the males want the other female
  6. yeah - like most common deaths/diseases so people can see they're not bad fish keepers and that crap hits the fan with a lot of other people too?
  7. No more deaths since the last of the pearlscale Angels yet, making her hold feeding until either the second or the third day. It was definately the filter that had given up, the motor wasn't going. The tank is 100L and the Fluval internal filter said it cycled about 900L an hour, so we assumed it was suitable. She's lost in total 6 small Angels, 3 Siamese fighters and a couple of Glowlights. But she's not giving up which is good
  8. If you do complete your degree in Marine Bio etc you probably don't even need to dive, that's what Masters students do lol...use them to your advantage. Plus you don't usually have to do your own diving, you get aides who collect/do whatever you pay them for
  9. cool thanks for that I'll take put him into a small barebottom cube next time I breed him, how long do people recommend that I condition him before re-introducing a female?
  10. but the thing is, the compartment the pot is in has a narrow opening due to the first set of dividers so not much can fit through and I can't pull up the divider 'cos the second compartment belongs to the male fighter and has what's left of his bubblenest.
  11. that could be a WAY easier option, how do you take the pot out without the eggs coming out of the water? Does it matter if the eggs were out of the water for a second?
  12. Water is filled to about 25cm-ish, the female was removed after releasing the eggs. No water movement at all, can't see anything in his new nest Will wait a few more days and hope for free swimming fry. The male is still not eating though - does that indicate that he's still looking after eggs?
  13. I can't see any eggs in the bubblenest and the bubblenest seems to have deminished in size and have noticed the male building another nest. Does this mean he's eaten all his eggs?
  14. the dad ate all the eggs the mum only ate the eggs that went white. Oh well next time I'll be taking out both the parents for safety
  15. Rams spawned again today, saw the female cleaning the pot surface at lunch and found this in the afternoon: Hoping that they won't eat the eggs again this time, might remove the dad after wriggler stage. How long do others leave the adults in, if you leave them in at all.
  16. and what about waterchanges? how often should I do waterchanges with the free swimming fry?
  17. I heard you can get it from the Docs - cos Metro's used to treat Giardia
  18. finally the female released eggs..got home last night from dinner and found female paralyzed in the corner and some eggs that the male hadn't picked up and eggs in his bubblenest. I don't think he's built his bubblenest that well 'cos the eggs do fall down every now but he does retrieve them. I have a Q: how long until fry hatch and need feeding??
  19. true, I guess they might sterilize them to keep up the demand and price?
  20. but what about hormones to induce breeding?
  21. haven't fed the decap yet 'cos all my fish are too big for it and only my new small cardinals take to the microworms. I have my pair of Blue Rams, my pair of Gold Rams and the fighters in the breeding set up. Had to take out all my Indian Ferns to catch the Rams had tonnes of fun replanting
  22. got 5 huge cultures of microworms going and getting brineshrimp eggs to hatch out aswell as sh*t loads of decap now all I need is fry!
  23. Hey cool, cheers for the tips Cam! Will keep updated posts...keeping fingers crossed especially since now I've got heaps of food for fry
  24. She just sticks to the bottom of the tank in a corner while he sticks to his nest and water sprite. So you just left her in there until they mate?
