  1. Came home after work - too late for the local petshop so couldn't get my sponge filters for the fry tank. Found the Anubia leaf looking grazed so am guessing either the SAEs or GBAs got to the Ram eggs - am a little bit bummed I'm getting my breeding set up tomorrow so I'll isolate the breeding Rams when the new tank's cycled.
  2. haha glad I'm not the only late bloomer! I heard that not everyone has to have them taken out all depends on how they fit in your mouth? Not too sure whether my cousin was lying or not...
  3. could be a heater burn - my GBA had round lesions but it healed quite fast
  4. Day two - looking good, eggs still on the leaf, dad and mum taking turns at being protective at times chasing each other away. It's halarious to watch them fanning the eggs
  5. cool will let her know it's not a disease - have since put in a bubble wall to create circulation of the water. Her dad's going to have a look around the motor part incase it's giving out. We're on the look out for a new filter anyway because we're doubting the filter's doing an adequate job
  6. I thought bigger fish could suck the fry once free swimming out of those nets? I have a fighter isolation hanging thingy but problem being no flow of current
  7. wow how old were people generally when their wisdoms came through? I'm 20 and mine still have not come through...
  8. the Blue Rams, I've taken a photo of the female still with her breeding tube out - am guessing she did the deed only recently
  9. but I've got nothing to provide air flow over the eggs - wouldn't the eggs die?
  10. she's had her tank running since October - no losses until the first encounter of white spot then everything was fine until that waterchange to get rid of the stagnant water. Water is consistent - 26deg cel, pH 6.8 (ish) I have suggested her to feed once every 2 days (she used to feed twice a day with big pinches) We also think that her filter might be giving out - can't seem to feel the suction of the filter as much (it's an internal fluval filter about 2 months new)
  11. Dammit - I've given my 13L cube tank away to Dave's little sister will have to wait until tomorrow after work to visit the petshop to buy another little tank and heater and sponge filter. Fingers crossed that the eggs last that long. The parents aren't egging the eggs so that's a good sign at least and chasing every one away from their corner.
  12. yeah it puzzled everyone how they did better in stagnant waters than clean water, we're also worried that the colourful pebbles in the tank might be giving off chemicals? Could anyone verify that?
  13. Dave's little 11yo sister has started up her own tropical aquarium after we bought her a tank for her birthday, tank was running fine until two unquarrantined Angels were added which caused white spot but after a few doses of Furan 2 everything returned to normal. She added 4 more small Angels to her tank and 6 tetras - we did a big water change because the water was looking a bit green and stagnant (she does one 50% per week). The smell from vaccuming the gravel smelt of sh*t to be honest (did a 70% waterchange using preheated water). By evening the following day, 3 healthy Angels had dropped dead + 2 tetras. Wanting to know what could be the possible cause of it, she's at her wits end and crying and wanting to give the fish back to the petshop before anymore dies. Any suggestions?
  14. ...can you eat Koi carps?? They look so gross like goldfish on steriods
  15. They're in my 6foot community tank - I have a breeding tank coming in so I'll put both pairs into the breeding setup. I have a feeling that I might have siphoned up some eggs from the blue rams when cleaning the tank today, would they lay on gravel? They kept on attacking the siphon...didn't think much of it at the time EDIT - Found a stash of eggs on a leaf of the Anubias!!! The male guards the eggs when the female goes off to eat then she comes back and he goes off.
  16. ...what colour are the eggs? I know it's a stupid question but I don't know what to look out for. Also I think my Gold Rams have paired off too - they now own the Indian Fern wall which means the remaining two Blue Rams are getting beaten up by the two pairs ALL THE TIME
  17. how long generally does it take for eggs to hatch and get to free swimming phase? Also - how long between each spawn?
  18. Oh guttered about your male..would've offered him a violence free home in my community tank...what a real shame! He was a pretty boy too - Tracy now your PM makes sense haha. Now who's the guy that we bought these little guys and girls from?? I wouldnt mind another few....
  19. well it is a small world apparently in NZ people are only separated by like 2 or 3 degrees of relatedness, you've probably seen us down in Pipitea or Kelburn before
  20. I'm so jealous...should've got two pairs well now the wager's on and I'm keen to fins out who won!
  21. what about Chemistry and Physics textbooks?? the worst $400 I've ever spent am happy to pass them through lol
  22. Ryan you can fight over it with Tracy, and the victor shall receive it - but whoever it is has got to promise me some offsprings keen for some in my community tank anyway
  23. Will they not lay if in a bare bottom tank? Was thinking about a bare bottom tank for them for the ease of cleaning. Can't wait for my breeding tank to arrive now!
  24. Alright Tracy - do you want my female? I haven't had much luck getting another boy
