  1. yeah that would be awesome! :bounce: and if its too much for me and i cant use all of it ill pass it on to someone from here who needs it.
  2. new house new room. the 4 footer is now in the lounge so everyone can look at it, and this nano is in my lille room. i won't be putting more stuff in it so won't need more filtration - the hang on filter is on the lowest setting cause it really churns the water quite a bit, lol. I will actually do many water changes on this tank unlike the 4 footer which usually gets it once a month - if i feel like it. advantage of a jungle tank i guess ha ha.
  3. The bricks are thin. 18 L of water in the tank. that's out of a possible 22L.
  4. that and evil computers aye.... can't change names like "bumblebee" pleco... i tried so much.
  5. i c. so it controls the rate of reaction in a way. but with this nutrafin system - like the one we have - the cannister is hard as; so won't compress in an attempt for equilibrium to establish. but its possible that the rate of reaction can be faster than normal if i add too much yeast or the temp is too perfect so then all the stuff will spurt into my tank? that does not sound good. so how much baking soda should i be adding? PS I shall look up this chelsea bun recipe and get the flat mate to make it.
  6. so what exactly does the baking soda do? i.e. what is stabilising?
  7. i got the same system and I use sugar (raw) and activated yeast. Each mixture lasts about a month and the results are great. Smells like beer when i open the cannister though ha ha
  8. yeah.... try telling them that. as far as they know; the heater is in there but not on. my fish do not need a heater in summer apparently  plus a sump for such a small tank seems like overkill, lol
  9. so how do i make this mini sump? and how do i hide it from my flatmates? lol
  10. ha ha spot on! lol. i didnt want to spend more money on the tank so i used my extra 200W heater on it. the heater's minimum level is well under water - will it still potentially pose a problem? Id rather spend a little money now rather than cry over spilled fish lol. (not to mention dealing with spilled water and an angry landlord) to make matters worse, the tank is on a warehouse chip board book shelf
  11. thanks Ryan, I will have a look at that article - looks like im going to have to get another tank to raise fry ha ha. either that or ill give the babies away and let someone else have them. I'm thinking on introducing a few more to keep numbers up.
  12. awesome thank you. I'm hoping to breed them sometime so fingers crossed that goes well. :bounce:
  13. how do i tell the difference between the male and female cardinals?
  14. yeah DavidR is right - the green terrors can be very pissy sometimes. the juwel is a nice tank - dimensions are 121 x 51 x 62 ish (cms). so you can get away with some cichlids but i suppose it rules the bigger ones out unless you grow them up and sell them when you think they are too big or getting there.
  15. In my 405 ive got 1 level of ammocarb, 2 levels of eheim substrate pro and 1 level of those ceramic pasta like things (forget the name).
  16. firemouths, blue acaras, green terrors can and will go well with dempseys.
  17. well that would look quite cool - i suppose blotchy isn't the best most accurate way to describe them
  18. normal black neons have just the black line through them. the brilliant black ones although sparkely have a blotched black look. they are both cool lille fish and look cool in big numbers.

    Laterite

awesome. thank you so much. i was afraid that it would change colour and become this horrible pinky colour (seen one tank like that) and that would ruin my tank.
  20. cardinals then ha ha. they will look awesome in that tank. what sort of lighting are you using?
  21. Nice. it looks all arty like. now all you need is your 50 rummy noses

    Laterite

Does laterite lose its colour after a while in the aquarium? Many thanks in advance for your help
  23. I'd rather not create a mini sump LOL. come to think of it the heater could v. easily fit behind the bricks... hmm.. that's an idea, but really - its not an eye sore is it? when you look at the tank in person it is barely noticeable but then again the fact that it is visible will cause me many a sleepless night ha ha ha. hows your nano coming along?
