  1. hey everyone.. ive decided i want a few of these since im starting my tank all over. i was thinking of getting 3 of them since they are slow growers (ive been told)... never kept them before (unless you count the time i baby sat one in my tank) and have been reading a lot about them. I have a heavily planted 4ft tank (200L) so that will be awesome for them. I also wanted an aro in there and a delhizi. but i know all these fish get huge, and so will pass on the fish when they get larger... any how.. i need to EVERYTHING about the tigers, what they like, what they don't (nitrates), what they are prone to etc etc.... also what am I looking at paying for smallish ones between 4 - 8 cm? what is the cheapest you have seen them go for? many thanks oh wise people! :bounce:
  2. a few weeks!!!?? omg. this shall test my patience levels. ha ha.. thanks you though, knowing me i would have chucked them if the completely died. or i would have given them away if they seemed to be dying on me.
  3. my fighter took a shining to the mollies.....even built them a nest and everything.
  4. South Africa... hahaha
  5. cool as... i shall get some of those and some more black sand (although it took 4 weeks for this lot to come from S.A  ), and I will plant the JBL fert and then cover it with more sand. thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated. hopefully my plants do well in this tank. shall be very depressed if they do not.
  6. no CO2..... yet... ha ha.. i think ill make one of those homemade ones tomorrow. only flourish, flora pride and plant gro, and laterite. lighting is an 11W Red light. doesn't tell me what K.. but i think it will be a powerglo. i'd be happier with a flora glo but i doubt i can get them in this size and type of tube.
  7. there is java fern in there somewhere! lol... 3 or 4 small bunches. all at the back in the dark, cause ive never been able to grow the stuff and im hoping it picks up. my "borneo sword" which is an outright lie (peace lilly) has given a flower too.. its all very exciting, lol... :bounce: there is also a nice stalk of marble anubias. that seems happy so im hoping the java fern will be happy too.
  8. damn. lol... looks like i will have to do some skillful planting then. and i may need some more of that sand. such an expensive hobby, lol.
  9. Thanks vinson! but i am still hunting for some more plants. lol... once my tiger lotus gives me some pups one can move into this tank and provide shade for the crypts and bubble nests :bounce:
  10. oh and with the JBL balls... do i have to cover them with the sand substrate, or can i just leave them on the surface. the tank has a healthy layer of laterite at the bottom. but it gets regulat flourish, plant gro, and flora pride treatments. i was looking at importing some conc. ferts from the states though.
  11. mine like spirulina flake, but apart from that they get marine flakes, tetra min pro, and colour bits (all tetra brand) and blood worms.
  12. :bounce: i have asked for female fighters to be ordered in at the shop i work at during the weekends so hopefully ill get the pick of the litter. this guy makes huge and tall bubble nests!
  13. brilliant thanks! and PM'd! :bounce:
  14. welcome welcome.... and i think it is Albus P W B Dumbledore. lol :bounce:
  15. thanks! yes i did want to breed him - but im looking for a female cambodian or a colourless female. then i can give the fry to some one local to keep and pass on to other members of this site.
  16. they have been kept for about a week underwater and havent died yet. but i presume the leaves will fall off now that i have bought them. i hope they grow well in the tank, and if they die, and I am unable to care for them - would you like to adopt some crypts? lol

    Crypt

So today i managed to get hold of about 11 plants that are some sort of crypt. when i removed the lead weights, and separated the plants there turned out to be about 20 plants :bounce: so yay for me! what i need to know are what conditions this plant will thrive in. ive read a little online, and it says the plant is v. hardy and does well in strong lighting. I also would like to know more about this plant and would like a definite ID. Thanks!
  18. how big is the tank? how many fish? what sorts? a bigger filter is always better than a smaller one or the perfect sized one; especially if your tank is over stocked.
  19. beautiful fish! ive always loved these fish, but they will never survive in any of my tanks. good going! :bounce:
  20. if you are sure water changes are failing, increase the filtration and use nitraban.
  21. thanks stella, will keep everyone posted on what my plans are. although i did have a dream that i was fishing and i was catching 2m long BGK's, arowanas, and heaps of borneo tigers, lol... maybe its a sign.
  22. on the other hand a car parking in their car park could be considered their property by that logic i think. as far as i know there is nothing stopping clamping on private property - provided there is visual sign-age warning offenders of the penalties involved... will have a look at my law book if you like. from my understanding, the car park is private property and the supermarket will reserve the right to admission - and along with that reserve the right to impose a parking restriction, or allocate parts of their lot as time restricted parking spaces. just remember that a car park - if typically publicly accessible is still considered a road and so any laws or by laws will cover your property as if it were parked on a road. for example you can still be charged for driving without a license if you are driving in a car park - if the park is typically accessible to the public. there are a few more "conditions" though.
  23. so much val! i would be in paradise over there! id make tanks specially to grow this stuff! lol
