there is probably more current in this tank with 2 fluval 405's than there will be in most tanks ! lol.. this one is only about 200L and is 4 ft long. 2600LPH from just the filters.
i feed them really little, and make sure they finish it all. do that a few times a day.
already read those. and yes - i know the difference between GH and KH. (A+ chemistry grades at uni :bounce: 99.5% average i think it was )
have taken care of both GH and KH thanks to some helpful ppl on here, and through work.
salt has been added to the tank. its not much of an option in my tanks really. it has to go in
The concrete has no weird additives. landlord even offered to make me some more  it is temporary however. im hoping to get coral on sunday if things sort out.
Thanks for the concern though, lol.. least i know my fish can have a responsible baby sitter if i decide to shoot off on the annual holiday
thanks Tracy. Are you starting your African tank soon?
Im so happy to report - I haven't had a single mortality! so much different from when I used to get fish from other places.
LOL it closes in 17 hours. I only wanted it as a fry raising tank, or a tank i can keep smaller fish in it until they are big enough to go in the main tank.
pH is now around 7. KH has been increased by an unknown amount, but that has definitely helped with the pH. Fish are much more active now. much much more active.
they will destroy your plants. destroy!!
that and the size thing will make them look out of proportion in your tank i think. (the animates here has them in a tank like yours and they look out of proportion). they can also be jittery
My favourites would be fancy plecos like gold nuggets, snowballs, some panaques...
Clown loaches, Discus, and then the monster fish - peacock bass, alligator gars etc.
sorry about your loss
however you may be successful in recovering the cost of the birds back - if the seller is nice and understanding - there is usually no obligation for private sellers to provide a guarantee for sold livestock but any guarantee would be based on the purchase price of the animal i would think. best to ask a legal expert. you would have to prove that the birds were in poor health and were in an unfit to sell condition at the time of purchase.
Recovering vet bills however will not be possible.
edit- PS- different story when dealing with commercial sellers.
2. - is it worth your time?
If you move them at this stage, there is a good chance that the parents will eat this batch up.
But if you set up a 2footer (barebottom) you can at least have the peace of mind in knowing that you will have the subsequent batches.
I dont recommend raising the kids away from the parents. 1. - the kids eat "discus mucus/slime" off the parents. 2.- much of this breeding behaviour is learned, so batches that have been raised with parents make better parents, and batches that have been raised without parents don't fare quite as well (their kids usually have higher mortality rates etc).
Oh and congrats on breeding one of the most rewarding fish to keep! :bounce:
