  1. pH 5.5 titrated it my self  coral is needed, and ill get some in a few days once the insanity of assignments and work finish.
  2. i want those heckels. illpaymore
  3. because they came from animates
  4. why are the loaches in quarantine?
  5. either hold it in place from the top (fasten it with U clips in the wall) or make it much deeper. have a diagonal support running at the back. Z shape if you see how that would help.
  6. Who reckons I should put 6 lionhead (lumphead) cichlids in there? Otto doing what they do best: poo out algae You can see the algae form on the rocks already. This lighting was made perfect for plants, lol. - The algae is pretty rampant on the primary rock surfaces. Just another hidey hole.
  7. panchax's are awesome too. they love eating guppies
  8. I dont mind algae on the rocks, but its only what a week or so in and I see green rocks, lol. they will have to compete with the ottos and algae eaters, and plecos im afraid.
  9. :bounce:  All done. :bounce: I just finished burning the data to a CD, and now i can submit it before my next class at 14:00
  10. it is our duty to surf and protect. PS- Not many men would complain about having a ration of 1M:4F. let your guppy be happy.
  11. ah that is the display time lighting lol. its a mixture of 1 marine blue light and 1 dull pink 6500K (i think) light (plant gro). Tracy you must come and see the tank sometime. I just added 3 otto's and 3 GAE's in there, to help with the alage that has already started growing on the rocks.
  12. it lasts a year for people with dozens of tanks, who feed the fish bbs everyday :bounce:
  13. right. If you have that much of a pH change, Id put some coral or limestone etc in the filter, and that should help.
  14. Get a million DEmasoni's and electric yellows, lol.. the colour contrast is a true spectacle. if you buy the fish from breeders, you may be looking at under $6per dem and under $5 per e. yellow. course you can add other fish too, male peacocks (colour) and red zebras. you will need a lot of fish though
  15. you may get eggs on the leaves of that plant one day if you keep the tank nice and dark (when they are ready to breed) it is such a beautiful plant though. If i were you I'd put a MH on the tank, and make the plant massive, and grow out of the water.
  16. what plants did you want? what size is the tank (how high, deep and long); There are lots and lots of cheap alternatives, to what is otherwise an expensive aspect of the hobby. as a general rule most people on here, with great success will use 6500K and 10000K spectrum lights. 18000K lights are also available, but are horrendously expensive (as t5 HO tubes - ~$60+ each) as compared to the others that you can get from an electric supplier for $5-10. I use 18000K tubes, and the plant growth was phenomenal. the other spectra seems great too, as heaps oof people on here use them with great results (have a look in the plants section). but another aspect is that the lights have to be powerful enough to penetrate the water, and reach the base of the tank, so plants can fully utilise the light that does reach them. HTH
  17. thanks, lol.. if the tank stocks itself i couldn't ask for more really. but i do need different blood in there, so im waitin for your dems to be about this size Only need a few more in there, and then let the selection process continue. The yellows are so active im thrilled! cant wait till all the fish are larger, and the yellows get their full colour. I actually put up a note near my tank that says: STOP do not feed the fish, cause im so used to feeding my fish every single time i passed the tank. Also I dont know if i should put the clown loaches in with them. don't want it to look out of proportion.
  18. Don't you dare!!! That's a horrible idea! youre better off getting rid of some fish! That plant is... magnificent!!! leave it as is! infact grow it larger!
  19. The only time I catch things are when i dismantle the tank, and everything comes out. Think of it as a permanent solution to selecting fish well  should do... ample filtration, but the idea is to thin out numbers from a large colony as the dominant males attempt to kill each other Least that's the plan.
  20. if you do use that stuff, don't do a WC for 2 days. (it works better). then do about 30% every week. heavily stocked tanks may need more than that. cycle and stress zyme DO NOT cycle your tank immediately. And if the helpful person in the lfs said it does, shake your head from left to right, (shake the attendant too) and say No. It does not cycle the tank immediately  it just speeds up the process and makes it well.. easier for the bacteria to establish in your filter, as it is nothing but a bacterial solution. I do think that you are taking too technical an approach to keeping your water quality in top notch conditions. You need not add the "required buffers" to the water everytime you do a WC. A buffer should have formed in your tank water, and this will resist pH change. if you must do a pH test and add some shells in either your gravel, or your filter. (shells available in the bird section of pet shops for a couple of bucks; or your local beach). HTH
  21. another 25 actually. :bounce: need to add them before these guys establish a colony.
  22. plant growth depends on: 1. Lighting 2. Nutrient in the substrate and 3. Nutrient in the water. Match the wavelength of the light you are using to the type of plants you want. same with intensity of light.
