  1. the lecturer probably expects me to do something like that. I think I sat in on another lecture of his - and about an hour in I realised that I had already finished that paper last year. He couldn't believe it. I didn't even realise that all my friends had magically just not turned up to class, and I was surrounded by a bunch of noobs.
  2. if you have a lot of plants in the tank (like mine or close to it, before i sold all of them) and your plants are doing well, and are showing good signs of growth - then you can stop doing gravel vacs and do larger WC's. The poop in the gravel acts as a natural fertiliser. I never did a gravel vac and it was all good. roots use a lot of that stuff.
  3. So... Im all stressed out about finishing my finance assignment and what have you; but at the same time want to send a pic to Zev for the fnzas POTM. Guess what this tertiary educated genius did? Yep. I sent my assignment to a very happy Zev (made her day apparently  ); and sent my finance lecturer my fish picture. So now, I am 2 days overdue on my assignment, but have typed up a nice email explaining my big boo-boo. I can only imagine what my lecturer will say when he wants to mark my excel document and sees a nice tropical fish staring at him in the face  Sometimes.....
  4. nice looking tanks, but they all have the same style I dunno, I think there are a lot nicer on that site - like some of the tanks from the previous years.
  5. you need to have good filtration if you want to have tanks like those on theplantedtank.net, and on PFK. you can also turn down the flow on the FX5 to suit what you need. But if its not a large tank or is one that cannot handle that much flow, save some money and get a 405 maybe? (and by some i mean lots)
  6. that napier aquarium has one like it.
  7. No idea what they will cost. I can keep ppl on here updated closer to the time, and before the public is updated if you like. but nothing i say is to be deemed as certain or binding that's all.
  8. holy moly. I though i had fat clown loaches

    wanted fish

HI Liam. there is a private trade and exchange part of this forum that you can post in to ask people for fish they have for sale, or fish etc that you want to buy. Try posting there, the how to's are posted above that section. HTH :bounce:
  12. your fish is older than Dixon and I!
  13. not all aloe vera is medicinal. i think from memory aloe "barbadensis" (spelling??_) is the good one, but that usually grows in the states not here. I wouldnt put just any thing on the fish - if you have ever had aloe jelly thing from inside the plant go in your eye you would know that it hurts like being kicked in the you know whats....
  14. That little one looks like the perfect size! :bounce: They are a very nice fish when they mature.
  15. AHA! fantastic stuff Ryan, I too prefer the maleris because they have more patterns. (although transcriptus sounds cooler to say)  apparently they also upturn themselves and swim upside down under rocks. I seem to be missing out on your fish by a matter of days every single time, lol...
  16. I am considering putting just 2 julichromis maleris in the tank with these fellows, just as an oddball in the mix. Any thoughts on this? I know they are from different lakes. What are the size and temperament differences with maleri's and the transcriptus? Many thanks! Is it easy to distinguish the sexes? Any preferences for one over the other? Thanks! :bounce:
  17. SAE's are good with plants. I had a couple here and there in my planted tank. They ate more fish food than anything else though.
