you must use the search function. All the info is there. Basically adding PH up or down etc temporarily alters the KH, GH and the pH; and does so immediately. When you do a WC without those additives the water will once again drop to the equilibrium levels. So you are looking at doing WCs and being permanently reliant on those products. That is not good. Adding wood naturally decreases the pH as it works within the confines of the existing water conditions. One is a treatment for the symptom and is temporary at best, and the other a solution to the problem. That is the difference.
  3. Aesthetically the m-series are better and I'd use that in a nano. In my larger tank, I wouldn't use any thing but a jager. in a breeding tank I'd just use something reliable and good. I'd go for the jager since it is cheaper.

No, that would be a silly choice of fish for those water parameters. If you did need to go down the S. American route, drain the tank, take out any coral, cement etc and the water will settle at near neutral levels (or near enough). Add wood to lower the pH. Add soft water to reduce the KH.
  5. One of the reasons, yeah. Plants are assigned a score out of 100 based on several environmental factors, and probabilities of establishing in the cold water ways. Currently they are looking at cabomba and r. rotundifolia as they have high scores (80+ IIRC).
  6. The reduced light intensity will possibly kills of some plants. I know more delicate stem plants don't do too well with it.
  7. I believe that is something I said on here a while ago. Difference is the amount of plants in the tank. At the moment its a tank with plants  little more scaping, wood, stones and well positioned plants and it could be a planted tank.

DO NOT USE pH ALTERING PRODUCTS. Plenty of info on here as to why you shouldn't.
  9. It's normal green tiger lotus.
  10. Ignorance is bliss my little grasshoppers.
  11. I shall show you how to tomorrow. I use fishing line.
  12. Barcalya is not very commonly available. There is the green and red type. Both required lightly specialized conditions; mainly to do with light.
  13. awww! The baby is so cute and helpless!
  14. well you need to measure your nitrate levels before deciding whether they are high or not. As I said, mostly caused by a nutrient imbalance with light and plants. Doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong at all.
  15. Well it did until it was fixed. I like the gypsy markets we have in palmy and the sakura festival.
  16. What are your nitrate levels at? Usually algae is caused due to an imbalance between nutrients in the water and light. Solving the underlying cause of the problem solves the algae problem.
  17. That was a truly wonderful meeting with some bargains to be picked up! As promised, $5 from the sale of one of my plants goes to the club! Our next meeting features the Palmy nth tank crawl and then lunch at valentines.
  18. They are like the propellers of a boat.
  19. I live in a house with the number 88, and the asians love it
