  1. Sailfin pleco. Growth = very fast. Most byrans - (the ones that tend to eat sludge) won't get that big - or not how big you would want any how, and they take ages to grow.
  2. The aquatic mix is like a clay and is filled with nutrients and the propagating sand goes on top of it. Dunno if you remember seeing it at either simons or mine.
  3. Shuttles should be under $40. Used to go from AKL Intl to home in Birkenhead on the shore for about $35 - 40 depending.
  4. Also remember an old dehumidifier is VERY power intensive!
  5. I am rubbing my capitalist hands with glee
  6. Happens every week without fail  It gets to be a cyclical pattern for a good pair. They don't lay eggs when they start taking care of their babies, and should spend most of the time taking turns guarding the eggs and fanning them Here is a video of mine - the first time they ever laid eggs months ago.
  7. It would be ok provided - 1. you have a large enough tank, (how large is your tank?) 2. there are plenty of caves & hiding spots to accommodate all the jewels and the BN, 3. you bear in mind that jewels get very very nasty when it comes for time to breed. HTH
  8. I use prime. It works out far cheaper than aquaplus and stress coat. When you have thousands of dollars of fish in a tank, a few dollars for peace of mind is well worth the price.
  9. Yeah, dems can be especially difficult to strip. Especially if you have big giant hands like me  Isolating her is a good way to get them to survive, and if you have lots and lots of hiding spots the other dems in the tank won't be all that bothered about eating the babies provided you keep them well fed. I had loads and loads of e yellow and dem babies survive in my tank that had many many many hiding spots.
  10. My discus spawned last night (or was it the night before?) I expect to see wrigglers tomorrow morning. I think I will actively breed them-ish over summer.
  11. mine usually lay in the evening. I presume the babies hatch during the night on day 3 because on the morning of day4 there are always a couple of hundred babies at the very least. Babies usually last 4-5 days and then the cardinals eat them

    CO2 Stuff

You could bring it along to the meeting and talk about what you mean!
  13. the females ovipostor is rounder and broader. the males 'thing' is sharper and kind of diagonally shaped.
  14. You get an expanding type foam insulation thing that is easy and cheap to do I think. IIRC my old landlords in a previous house insulated the entire roof for about 300-400 bucks at most. I'd imagine a room would be very cheap, especially if you have the poly and just need a gap between the wall and poly to be filled in.
  15. Do you know if they have 9000K tubes?
  16. I don't buy it. They will breed with them selves before hybridising. good evidence to support that some species will breed within a species before resorting to hybridizing too.
  17. Think when, not if! That is a nice design si! not sure about your selection of fish though
  18. Culling now plays an important part of any breeder's scheme, and there are merits for culling (mostly phenotypically based). However killing something when it is at a point where it is old enough to be ID'd just seems too harsh for my liking. There are better ways of isolating those fish from a breeding program than killing them. Most breeders will select (hopefully carefully) breeding stock from which they choose to breed from. Culling their offspring would be very uncommon if the parent fish were of good quality to start with. This obviously varies from species to species. Fighters for example are the one species that many breeders will have to cull in large numbers - irrespective of how phenotypically great the parents are.
