  1. Or you could just keep the babies! Most catfish aren't like Africans that breed, breed and breed. I say if you have the babies, keep them. They are yours to do what you like with. You don't just kills something for the sake of it.
  2. If you search on here, you'll find a thread that tells you exactly what you need to know . Someone else on here asked a while ago and we posted a hella lot!
  3. I had 18 at one stage and they never hid. That was in my old african tank though, so there were plenty 'dither' fish. So as long as there are other fish in the water with them it'll make them more confident. Light isn't so much of an issue. You could also try tiger barbs? They look awesome.
  4. What's wrong with orange discus? I prefer the blue diamonds personally  If you are looking for earthy colours - Rose Red is your best bet.
  5. animals sure.. it should kill them. But animals are the least of your worry. Boiling is considered good practise, but it depends on the wood. Some you don't have to bother with. Boiling also helps remove some tannins that would otherwise leech into the tank. Definitely kills bacteria. Not archaebacteria, but you don't have to worry about them
  6. Well it's not going to kill off any bacteria  They'll just go into a state of dormancy.
  7. Twisted val is legal. nice too! You can also tie the roots of a peace lilly to the piece of wood on the left. Then the plant will be out of the water and look great!
  8. A little selective breeding for the redder colours should help.
  9. And I have a large ozelot x red rose sword. $15. Very red and healthy - about 15 cm high with 10+ leaves I think. Also tanking EOIs on apisto agasizzi males.
  10. It's not a ghost angel and is quite a common sight with angels of this colour. There may not be something specifically wrong with it, but furan 2 is the remedy for Hemorrhagic Septicemia. Having said that I would expect to see more blood streaked fins with the condition. Your best bet would be to test your water; mainly for nitrites and ammonia.
  11. Female with eggs in her pot And the male I have bred her with. he has a red tail, and the others are more orange.
  12. They looked different IRL. Wetpets here in palmy had a golden one. Very different colour to a red coloured one.
  13. Now babies in this thread, that are 3.5 months old now have been bred! I think its the first time, although I suspect its the second time. but this time round I put 2 pots in the tank and what do you know. there are eggs in them  Separated the male today who is almost fully grown.
  14. It'll be hit and miss with them I think. So far I have seen golds, reds etc make it into the stores. Most have red on them.
  15. lettuce might work. you can build a snail trap by putting a piece of courgette in half a bottle and submersing that in the tank. Then in the morning just remove the contents of the bottle.
  16. erm.. this is the closest I can come to finding an image of what the parents looked like, but they didn't have any red on them. Just black and white / silver / green. The olive green was quite prominent though. velvet isn't a type either, just something I called them because they were totally velvety and didn't look like they had any scales at all.
  17. Many years ago I bred velvets... Surely they must still be around. Nicest fish ever. These are the only pics I have taken, using my first camera phone
  18. well they were bred at the lower end of the spectrum last time, and I got 9m 2f so this time ill try the separation method I mentioned before. That is provided this female makes a good mother.
