  1. Thanks everyone. The blue leds come on about 5pm and the white ones turn off at 10pm. Im still experimenting to see if the java fern and anubias will grow under these lights. Not to sure if the fern will. There is only one comp left :tears: because he killed the other two. I want more though, enough so he won't have just one to pick on.
  2. Just took some photos of the tank tonight so thought I would do an update... It has been through a few changes. But now looks like this here... The Julies are constantly breeding, some fry survive. the fry range from 5mm to 20mm. The Leleupi are showing signs of breeding, diging holes, courting their mate etc but no sign of fry yet. The synos are also showing breeding behaviour. But I need to get some female hosts for the baenschi 1st. Maybe when I'm ready to let the synos do their thing  I don't like any misbehaviour (Aggression) in my tank hense why the baenschi doesn't have any females yet. Frontosa turned out to be of bad quality with their barring. but it doesn't bother me too much. I just like watching them how they are.

    hello

Welcome, it doesn't seem great... it is great.
  4. The sump is sitting on poly. I could screw to pump to a board but that would only reduce the vibration but its not really the vibration that is bugging me. What return pumps have everyone used that are quiet. I need it to be reasonably quiet as the tank is in the lounge right behind the couch and I have to turn the tv up to hear it  That sounds like a good idea, I might have to try it. Hang it from a chain with a piece of rubber between the chain and pump?
  5. It has soft hose going to and from the pump. I thought the vibrations would stop plumbing it externaly as that is what other people have done. And it did stop the vibration through the sump and stand but the pump itself is noisy. The pump I am using is an ALEAS AH-5 submersible pump rated at 6000LPH at 0m head height. (A cheap one from trademe as thats all i could afford at the time). Maybe i should get a better pump?
  6. Yesterday I removed my return pump from my sump and plumbed in externally to reduce vibrations. Now i have it set up this way, it is even noisier. The vibrations have stopped but the motor itself seems to be louder than the vibrations were. :an!gry So I have incased the pump in a cardboard box lined with poly and filter wool for sound insulation, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I think having the pump in the sump, the water insulated the noise from it. What has anyone else done to reduce the noise from the return pumps? :dunno: Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Ive read similar but mine are just over 1.5yrs and close to 10cm and they are showing breeding behaviour. I have kept mine in a 800ltr tank and well feed their whole lives so they have grown quickly.
  8. Very cool, I like the setup walkthrough. You might have to watch those rocks falling when the fish get bigger.
  9. That price does seem like a LOT for a small tank. I had my 700ltr tank made down here for $1000 brand new. And i thought that was overpriced. Even the branded tanks around 400l can be found for less than a grand if you look around. Maybe you should shop around a little bit more.
  10. how big and how old are the synos?
  11. I have a piece of wood but the trunk is probably too thick The tree stump I had here in this tank... http://fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=39179&start=135&sid=dd377832bb31b4615a80a529927ca06d But probably not quite right though...?
  12. Cemix brands Ive used Cemix quick patch successfully.
  13. ... when your tank smells but your use to it so you can't smell it. or selective smelling
  14. flagtail is looking awesome. What is the max size of these? Jar lokking good too.

    So you mean...

 that is so funny, rofl!
  16. H1.2 can stand splashing etc but not constant wetting like rain so H1.2 would be fine, and is cheaper too. I say get 90x45s and cut them down.
  17. It could be possible, the mosses will surely grow different depending on their environment conditions. high light in a tank, low compact growth. Low light, taller growth, also with more water current like a stream, the mosses could grow longer like the ones you found earlier. They do look very similar IMO
  18. Mine eat the cucumber seeds, skin and all. Blanched lettuce too. Drop sliced courgettes into boiling water for 1min, depending on thickness of slice, and they will sink. I find mine don't like broccoli stalks so much an it gos off if not eaten within 24hrs.
  19. I was gonna talk to you about that. but my other tank instead i know you would like that.
  20. Yes you could visit if you like. when are you down here? So did I, its killing me that I'm gonna have to rip all the plants out.
