  1. Put an airstone under the roots to help with airation and you could possibly grow all sorts of plants.
  2. I'm not surprised you can't match a good quality still picture camera with a mid range video camera. You have absolutely the wrong equipment to come close to competing. The average CHEAP still camera right now has about 10 times the resolution that video camera does along with probably several times the light sensitivity. It seems to be a reasonably good video camera, but your best bet is to buy a still picture camera.
  3. Nope, I haven't used any kind of scraper, scrubbing pad etc in any tank in at least 3 years.
  4. I wouldn't have thought that a AC110 would be big enough to be worth the trouble. I'd think something like duckweed and and daphnia would work well. Would be redundant, I think. The plants should do that well enough.
  5. I still think they should use "Cubic neons" on the assumption that fish produce a roughly consistent amount of waste per unit of volume as their size increases. And, at the same proportions mass cubes with the increase in dimensions. So a neon is about one inch so is 1^3 cubic neons= 1 cubic neon. A 2 inch fish would be 2^3=8 cubic neons. 8 inch fish would be 8^3=512 cubic neons.

    diy co2 mix?

And then you can drink the old mix while you're setting up a new one...
  7. I'm probably doomed to become type 2. I have, last time I made a proper count, something like 6 relatives between my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles that are type 1 or type 2. My doctor even said, after my wife was diagnosed as type 1, that she probably caught it from my family.
  8. Heh, I was thinking $110 is really cheap.
  9. My black shark seems to have a lot of personality. Always running up to the front of the tank when I walk by. But after murdering $300 worth of other tank inhabitants the little bas...Err...Carptard better try and suck up to me. Oh, btw, black shark, TOTALLY inappropriate for your tank. I agree with the dwarf cichlids suggestions. Maybe a krib would work?

    Sump Return Pump

Nope, not overkill it's about right. You'll lose 1000-2000lph because, unlike cannister filters, they are working against head pressure pumping back up to the tank. So you'll be probably at around 4000lph before you even take into account frictional losses, restriction from any spray bar, etc.
  11. Fell into his oscar tank? How does that happen? "Oops, I knocked my breeding pairs off the table into another tank?"
  12. It's an african cichlid. They're all the same fish with different paintjobs anyway.
  13. Nope, they're omnivores, but mostly carnivorous like just about every fish in the hobby.
  14. I prefer the wild type guppies to most fancy ones, actually.
  15. Nothing compared to these guys. I want to know where these guys live so I can run to them when the zombie apocalypse comes.
  16. You should have added to the end, "PS: We'd love to know what species the attack fish is, do you have a picture?"
  17. Likely a combined sediment and carbon filter.
  18. Which would be, if the outlet is below or at water level, 0 static head. But you still have restriction from the hoses, media, etc.
  19. Actually, that's pretty much normal cory behavior.
  20. All not coldwater fish. Most not have gotten too cold or all of them would have died.
  21. You've clearly never had a look in your gutters and tank. Before it even gets into the tank it will have been filtered through 10 meters of rotten leaves, slugs, spiders, bird poop, roaches and hundreds of other bugs. Of course, many of those will have been washed down into the tank too and be dead and rotting in it... Good enough for the fish though, I just don't usually drink ours.
  22. Either I'm conserving the top right arm of the letter "k" to be used in a ' or there was some freakish internet problem that corrupted by post...I'll let you decide.

    Calc

I find it easier to just use google. It converts far more than that. 34 hogsheads in rundlets
  24. Uhhh...Yes...I agree with Weka. You're intentionally putting air into it and then wondering why it sounds like it has air in it? Some filters don't deal as well with CO2 going into the intake.
