  1. I dont under stand what T5s or T8s are, and why they are different to ordinary fluero tubes. What is a metal halide and why are they so much better and expensive? What is the difference between these and how do you know the sizes for them? http://www.petplanet.co.nz/shopping/pgm ... d=354&=SID http://www.petplanet.co.nz/shopping/pgm ... d=291&=SID What bulbs can go in what? like can T5s go in ordinary fitting if the volts are the same or do the watts have to be as well? And what relevence to watts have to the actual amount of light that gets to your tank? Sorry but I fail to understand lighting and I finally bothered to ask. Also I posted in here rather than saltwater or techical beacause plant peopletend to know this stuff. Would I be better off posting some where else?

    tea bags

insted of just throwing out water from waterchanges you could drink it. I dont think it would work anyway, just make your water tea flavoured but I might be wrong.
  3. I will out do every one WELCOME OUR 3000TH like my rainbow?
  4. hatchet fish if you can get em, but danuos would be good too.
  5. waht varietes are your angels? there were only marbles when I was there
  6. more angels?, there are some in right now
  7. why not plant? I dont why think people plants are harder to keep. All you need is lighting and fish and they will grow. Plants also act as nutrient sponges, help keep algae under control, provide shelter for the fish and look great.
  8. oh sorry, I was confused thinking you are breeding those 2 bettas together, my mistake.
  9. very nice caryl, ucould add 2 it by linning the inside with tinfoil for relectors.
  10. No offence but those are very beutiful, very different bettas and their offspring will be hidious. Beutiful on their own but ugly together. It is not advised to breed together tail types. I think those will make 'interesting' babies but we will see.
  11. what do mean by keeping lughts over tank until feeding? I have the lights on in the day. I feeding in the morning with lights on and at 7 or so with lights on. The lights go out at about 8.
  12. I purchased scarlae angels on friday along with 5 more lemon tetras to make a school of 9. They are healthy and not hiding but refuse to eat. I managed to get one to eat a small amount of flake but apart from that they have eaten nothing. I think they may be either scared of me or being badly outcompeted by the 9 lemons and 2 danios. Normaly they can chase the other fish and keep them away but at feeding time they cannot get to the food. I have tryed target feeding but the angels are afraid of my hand in the tank and then the food gets eaten by the other fish. I thought angels were meant to be good surface feeders and will out compete other fish? Do you think I should get some blood worms or sinking food to help them eat or should I just wait and see if they will learn to surface feed? The problem may be that Ichoose the 2 biggest fish in the tank and they are used to not having to work for their food. I think I have too many surface feeders for the poor angels, the danios could be moved but the lemons cannot go anywhere else. Could someone please help me out here.
  13. tell us plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  14. what did you spot? Was it the sliver shark with the growth? Was it good or bad?
  15. I think its digusting how pet shops can keep these clean enclosures for birds, rodents and dogs etc but have no idea how to look after fish. I think fish are often mistreated because they are difficult to relate to. as they are in no way anything like humans. Ie the SPCA can take away your dog if you keep in chained all the time put no one will even turn a blind eye if you keep a fish in a tank far to small for it. As for the quality of goldfish, I dont think goldfish are a very good fish for beginners, they have a huge bioload ,they get huge, they are not a natural animal and for some reason people think they can be kept in small prisons known as 'goldfish bowls' . In england I think the chain petshops there all have policys to not sell bettas or goldfish in bowls and advice people about the correct filtartion and tank sizes. I think someone should petition to have something like that happen here.

    PH

unless you have a very big tank the shark must go. What type of shark is it? You will find the sliver dollar will get all your plants too. but the rest are fine supposing the catfish is a cory.
  17. What is he going to say: Hi there people on the FNZAS hate you.

    PH

Do you have test kits for ammonia and nitrite? Those are much more important than PH when cycling. I would not worry about PH at the moment.
  20. Cheesejawa

    PH

Yes it would have a less signifigent effect on the tank. Also you will find your PH will drop anyway because fish produce Co2 which also lowers PH.

    PH

yes it will bring the PH down but unless you are breeding specific fish or have african cichlids 6 is fine. Boiling works much faster than soaking to stop it leaching tannis (making the water brown) If you want to keep it at 7.6 you could possibley get some PH raising rocks to counteract the wood. Run viniger over the rocks, if they bubble they will raise your PH. Hopes this Helps
  22. That would be more of a paludarium than a terrarium as It has water. Whats going in it? Nice tank, cant wait for updates.
