  1. I would say change 50% of the water and put the rest in buckets if you want to empty the whole tank. Whatever you do though dont rinse the whole filter, keep some media to keep the bacteria alive.

    Blue Rams

Where did you get them?, in invercargil?
  3. That is a bad fake, it has afican cichlids in a planted tank lol Would be a hell of a job to clean a tank like that too.
  4. I will third that do we get them in NZ? And what species of snails make that shell that the shell dewlers live it? Those shell dewlers that the male is big and keeps lots of females in shell house reminds me of the playboy masion
  5. Cool who did you get them from?
  6. Eastroad pets in Invercargil have a lot of reptiles. Big lizards, turtle and NZ native geckos.
  7. My moonlight gourami which I got from organism on sunday takes great joy in eating my plants. It has eaten one whole indian fern, shredded another one and ripped up 3 out of 4 of the java fern. It was in a tank with plants at organism with several other gouramis so this is odd, They did not say anything about them being plant eating ether. This is so annoying  . I have read that the enjoy flating plants but not in that way. Nothing I have read would suggest that they eat plants. What can I do to stop it doing this? Should I feed more or with vegeterian foods? I really need some help, any experience with with plant eating gouramis would be really helpful.

I shouldnt think there will be any problems but you probably should have asked before putting it in. Just out of interest what size is this tank?
  9. I would really love to do an article on native plants but theres one problem, I dont know anything about them. Could I do an article on what I dont know about native plants?
  10. dont know what is it is but it is a very cool fish. Great photo too.
  11. I would highly recomend Organism. I was there on sunday and it is the best fish shop I have ever been to. Clean tank, lots of great fish, big variety and healthy fish. Most of their stock tanks are planted and extremly clean. They have a good range of community fish, marine fish and corals, Africans and SA cichlids. They have a good range of plants in their stock tanks but the plants for sale arnt that amazing. They have plenty of equipment and wood etc. The staff are helpful and know their stuff. I would say they could improve on the size of their shop. I would definetly recommend going there. I also went to Animates. If you are looking for plants I would head to animates. There tanks and fish are pretty good but not great. They have a good range of equipment etc but it is really overpriced. The fish are pretty well priced and they have some good deals on week days that let you get 2 fish or plants and the 3rd is free. There range of plants is great but beware of snails. It is more focused on other pets but their fish are still pretty. I would say that the staff arnt to helpful and you need to go get them yourself. They really need far more staff for a shop of that size. This is a chainshop thats is not specilised on fish so they wont always know what they are talking about. I know Animates has alot of contriversy on the forums but I would say that they are good for range and price of plants and fish but not helpfulness or knowledge. I would reccomend going to both of these shops.
  12. Why did you clean your car out of your garage?
  13. Were can you buy it? Can you ask bookshops to order it in? And about what price is it?
  14. interesting is that a reflection in the photo or do you keep a tank full of washing?
  15. Nice job. Great work planting you have done. I would remove that plant background and replace it with a fake rock ground on stick some slate on the sides.
  16. Has anyone done an article on native plants before? (I dont know anything on the subject but I would be interesting)
  17. also possible option is to keep in the an a water through/bath pond I am planning. But that would rule our goldfish as the goldfish would eat fish that size. I just realiesed that lake hayes does have sea axcess but its is very far way. This would bring up a few more option on what the fish are.
  18. I have looked at the profiles and none of them looking like what I saw. I will try and catch and get photos Also would 16 litre be good to keep any native fish in?
  19. Great photos there . They look best a night. What do you use as moonlights?
  20. I am meaning lake hayes, it is a smaller warmer lake than lake Wakatipu. They are a brown colour and swim in huge schools of maybe 50+ all in the sam direction, they are about 6cm long. I think they maybe baby Koaro or bullies. How big tank do you need to keep them? I also noticed a small brown but more camoflauged than the other fish they was more flat but about the same size that swam in a similar way to a pleco. I was swimming on its own and would swim then stop and sit, then swim again. There is an aquatic plant that grows in patches. It is grass like, Similar to hair grass but shorter and further apart. Is this a native maybe lilaeopsis novae zealandiae? What to you need specifcally for a native tank. ie. size, equipment. There is book at the libary about native fish found in the otago region, I think I will get this out. I know we can get freshwater crayfish and know were to find them. Now that I think of it you can get galaxids on the Routeburn too.
  21. Today I was watching the the cockbillies in the lake, they look amazing swimming in their huge schools along the bottom between the grass like plants. I was thinking about how I could create this in my tank. I have always wondered if cockabilles were natives and if they are, are they actully bullies of some kind? I was also thinking about if I had a heap of cories would they school like this? or danios maybe? This got me thinking that maybe aquarium dont school that much is because they have not need to as they have no predators and there food comes to them. I would love to see my lemons and neons school in groups like that more. Do I just need bigger numbers. Just thought I would share this with everyone. I am open to diccus these things.
  22. Has anyone tried Flock? Its like firefox except better and looks better. I think Firefox and Flock are the only ones that can download flash movies. Correct me if Im wrong.
  23. Where would you be planning to get this dogfish? Cool idea, very different to anything else.
  24. Ok it gives me more time to organise the redo.
  25. Finally updates. Pretty quality of photos but good camera is broken. main shot of tank. the only focused photo of the lot. Note the GBA trying to sneak into the shot, yes he likes attention. one of the new angels, well not really new I am jsu lazy with doing updates. Ok its a crap photo but its better than ones I didnt post. Things to do. > Redo with daltons > Add driftwood > Replace plant background with black one > Get a canister filter. Hope you like them.
