    They are probably Planeria, They come from exces food or waste. They dont really cause any harm but just seem annoying. Fish can eat them. More water changes and feeding less will get rid of them.

    Neons and Danios, would be my choice Although they are the most common of the four they are interesting IMO Danios and fast and have character. Neons are very colourful and look great in massive schools.

    If you want to see piranhas make a trip to the national Aquarium in Napier. If you are really interested Im sure you could ask how they got their permit from MAF to import. It does say there that they were oringinally swaped for seahorses from the seahorse farm (also in Napier).
