  1. I look after other people's babies and young children full time in my home, and of course also my own 3 yr old son. Mostly different children each day. I wouldn't rather be doing anything else, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job!! This is some of my cuties
  2. Yes, that would have been sensible wouldn't it!
  3. Ok so I will read up about peacocks and once I have moved my current fish out, how to I acclimatise my pictus and BGK to a higher PH, how do I raise it slowly? I would like to have a white substrate, crushed coral or silica sand. Which do you recommend?
  4. Just wanted to show off my little pictus cat, he is so cute. I know he's not rare or unusual but didn't know where else to post it
  5. There was someone on Trade Me a while ago. Their user name was dave.j1 but they don't have any listed at the moment.
  6. Hmm what about peacocks then? I would prefer to have fish I am not going to have to rehome. If I get a bigger tank, my husband might rehome me. Plus I do get attached to my fishies.
  7. Hmm that is true, if I only could get hold of an old shopping trolley from New World...
  8. Yeah that does look cool. I am not sure about the bricks, not natural enough for me, but it still looks wicked. I really like the look of giraffes and blue dolphins. Your peacocks sound amazing too. I will work on moving my fishies around and then come up and see you!
  9. That sounds like a fabbo idea. I will be in contact over the next few weeks! :bounce:
  10. I was going to visit friends in Te Kuiti some time soon and could feasably come home to Welly via Auckland (sure it's only a 5 hour or so detour from TK!) but also Bulls isn't far to get to ryanjury!
  11. My son has poached most of my little fish from my community tank for his little 2ft tank in his room (mummy I think I will have those fish please...). I am now a little undecided about where to go from here. I have in my 200L community tank, among other fish, 2 severums. They have now started eating the plants (yeah yeah told you so etc). The other day at the dentist I saw an awesome cichlid set up and now I can't get it out of my head. It had a black background and white sand and just rocks and it looked stunning. The cichlids were so beautiful and so active. So before I buy any more fish for my planted community tank and give away the severums, I am wondering whether instead I should move my plants to my son's tank and go cichlid all the way. Why do people choose cichlids over a community tank? And out of what I have left in my tank apart from the severums, which, if any, would be ok in a cichlid tank and the higher PH required? BGK, pictus cat, spiny eel, glass cats, plec.m I really love the look of some of the fish Johannes is selling. Sorry if I sound really naïve when it comes to this!
  12. Age: 34 Colour: Red Married with one 3 year old son. I like travelling, reading, films, cooking, knitting (sad but true) mosaic (at the moment I am covering a concrete wall in our garden. I am a stay at home Mum and also work full time looking after up to 4 other babies/children in our home. Best job in the world and I love it. Can I add a question about people's user names? ie Why they chose it? I am tinytawnykitten cos The Tiny Tawny Kitten was my favourite book when I was a wee one.
  13. To all who have paid for discs they were send (finally!!!) on Saturday. Sorry for the delay I have been very slack in this department!
  14. Ooooh parrot ranch? Can anyone visit? Is it good? I am going up the coast on Sunday, where exactly is it?
  15. Hi there, I am still after some tadpoles. I was going to get some from christopher but I never managed to get over to him and I've not been able to get in touch with him since. If anyone has a few tadpoles they'd like to get rid of in Wellington I'd be keen! Will post this in Private T&E too.
  16. I wouldn't buy Fisher and Paykel but not cos their moving off shore, because their reliability (in my experience) has deteriorated terribly. We have just had our dishdrawer fixed for the 9th time and written off the washing machine.
  17. Hmm fav song is hard cos it changes all the time. At the moment I really like 'Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure' by the Weakerthans. It is from the perspective of a cat who has left home. And film, hmm, so many...Intermission, A Mighty Wind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Castle, The Life Aquatic, Amadeus, Veronika Guerin. I just watched Lars and the Real Girl which was lovely.
  18. We have the Canon 400D and we always reckon it is the best thing we ever bought. Fantastic photos, easy to use, point and shoot but completely manual if you want it to be. Of course the downside of an SLR is the size, but for me the quality of photos is more important...
  19. Just GORGEOUS! It looks fantastic!!! :bounce: Where did you get your discus? All I can say is WOW (and I'm just a teeny bit jealous!)
  20. Yeah I thought the mercury theory was a little odd too. I guess it is whatever is making the water cloudy.
  21. My friend has a 3ft community tank and a couple of weeks ago there was an enormous bang and her heater exploded. She cleaned up the heater, replaced it straight away and did a 50% water change. Since then the tank has just gone downhill. She has been doing almost daily water changes (not 50% of course) but the water is constantly cloudy and the fish are dying daily. Someone suggested mercury poisoning. Is that possible? Does the heater have mercury in it? She doesn't have a spare tank and is at a loss about what to do. Any advice?
