I was thinking of setting up an aviary in our back garden. I don't know if it is even possible though. I always had birds as a child, usually a budgie or two, but we don't really have space inside our house for a good sized cage and my husband isn't keen anyway. What sort of aviary would I need for a Wellington garden? I am supposing I would need one with nesting boxes for the birds to keep out of the cold in winter. Or does it get too cold/windy in Wellington for an aviary? What types of birds can be kept together? I guess I am thinking the bird version of a community tank! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have quite a few vintage/retro things like this in my kitchen (like an original 50s Hamilton Beach 3 spindle milkshake machine and a few things like that) and it would go really well in there.

Yeah I will put it off, although I might be able to send hubby to get some Masterpet brand from the supermarket.

I use water ager religiously for every water change but I want to do a water change and have run out of water ager and won't be able get out to buy some until Friday. Is it completely necessary? I am guessing it is but I thought I would check.

I alternate what I feed them, sometimes tetra flakes, sometimes trout crumble, sometimes spirulina flakes and sometimes cichlid crumble, and once a week frozen bloodworms. I don't know if that is good or bad but I thought I'd share.

This one of my cichlids has what looks like a more rotund belly than the others. Seems ok in other ways as far as I can tell. Should I be worried or am I just being a paranoid mama?

They've been a little grumpy but only to each other. Typical married couple? If they get nasty they will be moved. So far so good though. :-?

Hi there, well this is the Blue Melanochromis I got from 'peanuts'. I am wondering then after a quick internet search, are they Maingano, Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos? And here's a full tank shot I just took but it is dark and night time ish. It's not great, definitely a work in progress. I need more rocks which I am getting this week. And the dark area on the right hand side is a piece of driftwood I've had for ages. The pink and orange bits are flakes I just fed them.

Totally true, my son is coming up to school age in the next year and the thought of bullying terrifies me and make me want to home-school him and keep him wrapped in cotton-wool. We can only hope they make friends who are caring.

Should being intolerant be a bannable offense too? :-?
