Sorry if this isa dumb question but can you actually have a planted tank with cichlids?

I saw her behaving oddly and she had a thing poking out of her nether regions (ok so I don't have all the terms down pat yet!) and then she laid two eggs on a leaf. This is in a community tank and it was just luck I saw her so I have taken the leaf with the two eggs and put it in an isolation net thingie. Now what? Was I meant to do that or not?

Ha it is funny you saying that because I have just been watching her shredding a plant. And she just had a nice feed of frozen bloodworms! Oh bother.

Hmm yes this worries me. My severum is about 10cm long and nibbles at plants from time to time but that is all. I have read that they can be ok in a planted tank but I have also read that they aren't.

Of course I will need to buy a much much bigger tank then!!! Yay! :bounce: *husband runs from the room crying noooooooooooo*

I have a nice (at least I think it is) 3ft planted tank. In it there are 6 pearl danios, a bristlenose, a black ghost knife, a spiny eel (well I think I do - I haven't seen him for days!) and a yellow severum. I LOVE the severum but I am looking for some inspiration about what to add next? Or should I not add anything? Should I buy more severums or is it ok to have just one?

I am wondering (I hope this hasn't been done before or done to death and sorry if it has) why everyone got interested in fishies? I got into fish because of the kids' show on Playhouse Disney called Stanley. Stanley has a large pet goldfish with an english accent called Dennis, who lives in a completely inadequate bowl next to his bed. Anyway, my little son wanted a fish like Dennis too and decided he liked 'blue neon tetras' as he calls them and it spiralled from there. I have now gotten two of my clients into fish too!

I have a beautiful gold severum in my community tank and she/he seems to be getting on fine with the other inhabitants (platys, mollies, 1 BGK, harlequin rasboras, pearl danios). How do I sex this fish? And would I be best to stai with just the one severum or should I have more?

Yeah I was in there today and saw one there. Very interesting looking. I am on the lookout for an oddball for my community tank. I bought a spiny eel from Animalz a couple of weeks ago and I really like him when I get to see him (which is rare!).

I'll let you know, I would hate for you to send me one and then for me to be a complete ditz and forget to record it. I have the HDD programmed though. I will let y'all know once it's recorded and then figure out who wants a copy

I never see them in stores though, at least not in the Wellington region. Have you seen one Danielle?

I have a plant in my tank which I think is a Hygrophila of some sort, and it grows roots along all its stems. Should I cut the plant in these places and plant them or should I shove the whole stem with all the roots into the gravel or just leave well enough alone??

I am a homebased childcare type person and we have been talking about tadpoles a lot in the last few days and I would like to get some tadpoles for the children to watch them turn into frogs. But I was only going to use my little spare/hospital/breeeding tank I use for my tropicals. What can I do with the frogs once they are frogs? When I was a kid we used to catch tadpoles in Hatepe and let the frogs go in Otari pond. Can I do this or is this a terrible thing to do?

I am a home-based childcare type of person and on Thursdays I have 3 Henrys (out of 4 children).
