  1. Hmm I don't have one without pepper in it, so maybe I'll just squish it up with my fingers.
  2. The female of the fish I have just sold spat some fry just hours before I bagged them up to take them to the buyer. I now have the fry in a guppy breeder in my tank. What should I feed them?
  3. I have a thing about this too but I am the other way around. I believe that I pay for my email account and my cellphone account, and it is for my convenience, not for the convenience of the person who is texting or emailing me. Hmm, I guess no one's gonna reply to my posts from now on.
  4. The 'Does anyone know of someone that wants an unusual pet???' thread for some reason made me think of this site - it has some incredible 'photos'. http://www.humandescent.com/
  5. We considered Rory for Cian too but the Irish spelling - Ruairi, but in NZ it would probably be mistaken for a Maori name and then I would be forever explaining. Oooooooooooooooh I just got another star!!!!
  6. While I am away next week someone is coming to paint my living room ceiling. It will need to be scraped, sanded, plastered, primed and then two coats of oil-based paint. My fish tank is in the living room. It has glass lids and a wooden hood, but should I take special precautions? Will the fumes from the enamel effect the fish?
  7. Yeah well the thing is, I just have this bank account with squillions of dollars in it and I just don't know what to do with it. It is really hard being me. Not really.  Seriously though, yeah that is a much better idea! Why didn't I think of that!
  8. Ooooh what fun, I am Jennifer Shula. Jennifer is Cornish and means white, or fair. Shula is Arabic and means bright. Sadly though my parents like a BBC radio show called The Archers (the longest running serial ever - it is still going) which has a Jennifer and a Shula on it. My son is Cian, he was 'made in Ireland' so we chose an Irish name. It means ancient, but we chose it cos we like the look and sound of he (pronounced key-in), not cos he is ancient. Love the name Rory, it is the top of my list if I have another boy. I was served by a guy in a shop the other day and his name was Rory and he was one of those unfortunate people with a speech impediment and he called himself Worwy.
  9. Yeah much better actually! Must have just been over-gunked. Of course my 405 from Afrikan will arrive tomorrow but I lost a fish last night and didn't want a repeat performance. Thanks again
  10. Oh wow I've done it, what a cool system! Thanks for your help. All I did was just rinse out 2 of the 4 sponges and the canister itself, and tomorrow I will buy just 2 new sponges. Of course now it is back on and has nicely belched a lot of gunk into the tank!
  11. So I turn it off, then should I put it in a bucket before I start disconnecting things? In case of flooding?
  12. My fluval 105's current has dropped considerably since I first started using it about 6 months ago. I have cleaned the intake and outlet but haven't ventured under the tank yet, as I am not entirely sure what is the best way to do it. I have never actually changed the media or anything. What should I do?
  13. replacement (hehe try and find a word which starts with 'nt'!)
  14. I was just wondering really, I have just bought Afrikan's Fluval 405 so don't need a sump.
  15. Ooooook Sump is not for me! Thanks though!
  16. Ok, so I gotta ask, what is a sump, why have one, how does it work and how do I set one up?    (I am not sure how to feel)
  17. If you could get them to Taupo I could stop for them as I am stopping in Taupo for lunch with friends.
  18. Aha, I hadn't thought about a stand. I have a people-carrier, but yes you're right I don't think it would fit. Pooz.
  19. I can measure up my car and see if it fits, and if so, I could possibly bring it up next Thursday for a bit of petrol money. Is Pukekohe in Auckland?
  20. freaky, we went on the 27th of Sep last year. You'll have a blast!!
  21. Whatever I buy, if any, will be in for a 8 hour drive back to Wellington so fish which are under the weather probably won't be worth it.
  22. We will be in Auckland in 10 days or so, just for 2 days, staying with friends. One friend lives in Onehunga, the other in Caster Bay. We are just deciding which friend to stay with on our last night before we drive back, and I want to have the opportunity to buy a fish or two from HFF or somewhere like it, to bring home, so whatever it is, if I buy something, I will obviously need to purchase it on the sunday morning we leave for Wellington. Caster Bay is near HFF Albany, Onehunga near HFF Mt Roskill. Are there any other great stores in Aucks? Which of the two HFF is better?
  23. The guy who seems to know about cichlids at Hutt Pets (Tim? Ben? Bob? Biff? I can't remember his name) told me he has straight val in his tank and it works well as long as you give it a good start by preventing the fish from digging it up while its roots are establishing (I have mine surrounded by small rocks) in the sand. I have a few straight and twisted val in my tank and they are growing well in the tank and the fish aren't interested in eating it.
